Yeah. Bailey is a 50 SB per season kind of closer. :D

Haha. s***. I meant to just have Ells and Craw in there, then halfway through realized Bailey would be closing the 1 run games, not Aceves.

Let me tell you something right now.

Don't even think about letting Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez get hot around the same time Beckett, Buchholz, Ellsbury, and Crawford are due back.

If that happens, as Ortiz would say. Beast Mode.

Red Sox CF this year have hit .262/.302/.352, .654 OPS, 4 HR, 26 RBI, 34 Runs Scored.

Ellsbury through 73 games last year: .313/.379/.469, .843 OPS, 8 HR, 38 RBI, 52 Runs Scored.

That's a pretty big disparity between Ellsbury and a sub.

And if you don't think that affects our record, the Red Sox are 8-8 in 1-run games. Guys with speed like Bailey, Ellsbury, and Crawford are the guys who turn 8-8 into 11-5 or 12-4.

So the injuries are not nonsense. Just because the subs have played well does not, by any means, mean that the Red Sox are just as good now as they would be with Ellsbury, Crawford, and Bailey.

This is a very long discussion. Not really into looking up all the numbers right now. I admit the injuries hurt, but I also think that the major problem is not injuries, its the fact that our pitching is #12 in the AL. How many more games we would have won with Ellsbury and Crawford healthy all year is guesswork.

The era will improve. I promise you that.

Ace has 18 saves, tied for fourth in the AL. How many more would Bailey have saved that Aceves didn't?

If the Sox get another arm maybe all that other s*** will matter but without another arm in the rotation I doubt it will matter. Hitting becomes less and less important as the season wears on and starting pitching becomes even more important.

How many more 8th inning holds would Aceves have saved that Padilla didn't?

How many more 7th inning holds would Padilla have saved that Atchison didn't?

Game looking much better right now. They were pissing me off by the fifth with two hits off Laughable and DiceK looking at a possible loss after the best performance I can remember from him in recent years. This is more like it.

Its been improving. Just not relative to the rest of the AL. We have been #12 or 13 all year.

The # of saves is irrelevant. He's had 4 BS. I think bailey hangs on in at least 2 of those, maybe all of them. It's his job. Plus bailey healthy lets ace do his super bullpen utility man role.
