Every Beckett start seems to engender so much angst. No idea what we will get tomorrow.....the golfer....the texas tough guy....be nice to just get the starting pitcher for a change.

It shouldn't matter vs Seattle.

Nope. Seattle has the next to the lowest OPS in the AL, last I checked. And Beckett does not want to face the fans' reaction if he lays another egg. I think he will do fine tomorrow. Its the consistency of his effort that I am concerned about.

Peter Gammons just mentioned on the pregame that the Nat's have a scout over here watching the Sox catchers because Ramos went down and is out for the season.

Trade Salty, call up Lavarnway? Yes, please!

Wonder what we could realistically get for Salty. Likely a guy like John Lannan, who the Nat's have been actively shopping. He'd be a guy you could slide into that 5th slot and put Bard back into the bullpen.

That wouldn't be a bad move at all.

The Nats lost yet ANOTHER catcher tonight. Sandy Leon, who is probably their 8th string catcher, went down with a sprained ankle in the 4th and left the game. PLEASE take Salty off our hands.

He's been very good this year. His numbers are weighted by 2 horrible outings one of which he just flat just rocked and the other he was coming off of a long layoff. He's been money in 4 of 6 starts this year and he's in perfect position to make it 5 of 7 tomorrow.

There could be room deep in the pen, but is he really an upgrade over anyone there?

5.5 games out!

I hate that the Yanks winning is sort of helping us out (b/c of their opponent) -- though with them being only 1.5 games out I'm back to wanting them to lose.

They're wasting Tazawa down in AAA. He struck out 3 tonight. Just DFA/DL Morales already.

for sure i dont understand why they are not having Tazawa back up. i would let go Albers instead of Morales. Tazawa would have had that game in KC big time.. i have faith he would have gotten us out of that jam. but on the other hand 3 LH pitchers Morales/Hill/Miller and Morales is definitely looking like the weak link.

Tonight's game should be a great opportunity for Beckett to recover some PR mileage. The Mariner's are yet another semi-ML team stuck in limbo between AAA and MLB. He will be pitching to Salty in this afternoons 4:00PM start, not his favored catcher. Still and all, the Mariners are terrible. Beckett could end up having a great game tonight.

He certainly has the potential to pitch a great game tonight. In reality the sooner we all stop expecting Beckett to be some sort of leader of the pitching staff the better off everybody, especially in that pitching staff will be. He is not a leader. He does not want the job. In reality I am beginning to think many of the things people do not like him for are things he does trying to flesh off the responsibility as the leader of the pitching staff. He is the #2 pitcher in the rotation. That is it. That is the only job he is interested in doing and it appears that there are times when his interest even wains in that role.

I cringe now every time I see an article or media piece that starts with the assumption that Josh is the leader of the staff. I have gotten to the point where I think it just instigates more bad behavior on his part. I admit it leaves a big hole because this staff really does not have a guy that has the cred to fill that role. Maybe they will all grow more as a result. It is what it is.

It's a 4:05 start this afternoon, just in case you did not know.
