He knows Youk is on the downside of his career, and maybe he's trying to light fire under him. I've no problem with that. In fact, I wouldn't mind Bobby going all around the roster and putting them all on notice.

And that's pretty ballsy of Pedroia to say "That's not how we do things here"

Well how DO you guys do things here, Justin?

Pig out on chicken and beer and play Grand Theft Auto while the team embarks on the worst September choke in history?

These entitled players need to take it on the chin, and get to work. My boss can be a prick too. But I don't get paid $20,000,000.00 a year with a 6 month vacation.

Suck it up, Red Sox. It's a privilege to play for this club, don't forget it.

I think the Pedroia statement was an unintended consequence that was a positive development. It's always good for the guys to demonstrate that they have each others backs.

I agree. BV kinda backed out of what he said or said it was taken wrong and apologized.

People tend to apologize when they are wrong (most people). BV was wrong IMO.

I don't think there is anything wrong with what Pedroia said and I applaud it.

He flaps his gums a lot and much of it is stream of consciousness. This will not be his only slip up to be certain.

Also, Dustin works his ass off and knows he'll outlast this manager by several years.

BV is a lame duck, imo.

Not doubt about that! That's why I've never liked him. But he's the Red Sox manager now and I continue to hope for the best.

BV is a self-promoting twunt. But at this particular stage in Red Sox Land, his shoot from the hip style is better than Tito's Aww shucks style, in my opinion.

That's why he's here, for chrissakes.

The sooner people get their heads around it, the better, fans and players alike.

Why is this such a surprise ? With BV' date=' you knew what you were getting....he never hid it. [b']Youk has been under 200 all season [/b]and just recently was around 111. Of course JP is going to attack...he was always known as TF boy...to the point that even he with his big mouth couldn't rally the troops last fall

All season?

You mean ALL nine games?

Good point.

He may well be a lame duck.

To me, after seeing what happened with Tito, and now what's happening with Valentine, it shows what a crazy hard job it is managing the Sox. You will get a decent paycheque, but you will be subjected to an incredible amount of scrutiny, second-guessing, name-calling and abuse.

But he did. And as manager of the Boston Red Sox' date=' you'd think he would be able to filter better. At least a qualified person should be able to.[/quote']

This is what it comes down to. A man of his years and apparent breadth of experience should never say the words that he said. He should have chosen his words more carefully at the very least.

If that is what constitutes the season so far......yea.

You remember the battle cry...every game counts...even April's games.

I'm getting tired of V's big mouth. Here today, I read all kinds of crap about dissing Youks, then saying he's sorry. Poor Youks. The guy gets kicked off his all-star position because his GM loves another. Then he gets misquoted by a media queen in the clubhouse, and has to endure a series of injuries that could be related to his changing position too late in his career. The Sox did a fine job turning one of the steller players in the league into a questionmark.

You look at Vs original quotes, and the subsequent interpretations look like they were distorted. A bunch of HS. The media--mainly the Globe, ESPN, and Yahoo sports--that I've seen, seems to be out to diss the Red Sox this year, and they are going to distort everything big mouth Bobby says to them.

The message to Bobby is button up. This club could really use a PR spokesperson to muzzle all the loose

cannons. Shut up about your players, Bobby. Take some lessons from Tito.

His problem is that he doesn't have a off switch... or a filter for that matter... the media asks him a question, he responds... for better or often for worse.

he's just keeping John Farrell's seat warm until his contract with Toronto expires.

You really agree on a player telling his manager that things aren't done like that around here when that same player was part of the team that was part of the biggest collapse of all time? These players are used to Tito babying them to sleep every night, what Pedroia said further proves that they ran the asylum when Tito was manager so it's not a bad thing if Valentine stirs the pot a little.

I know BV isn't popular with most folks especially on this board but IMO his comments were distorted and overblown. On this I agree with Tony Massarotti. Pedey on the hand demonstrates that the players still don't get it. If they maintain this sense of entitlement then they'll repeat last year's lackluster finish.

I don't think players should tell the manager anything except yes sir.

I'm all for Bobby V knocking the Prima Dona's down a notch, but I still think the second John Farrell's contract is up he's getting a huge contract from the Sox.

Unless Bobby's gotten some jewelry by then. ;)

If Bobby V can take this current group and win a World Series I'll buy an authentic Bobby V jersey

I don't see why he couldn't.

I'm curious as to why the players would refer to the manager by first name. In football' date=' it's "coach." Is this standard around the league, or just on Boston?[/quote']

Oh how good manners have declined in this country ever since( you name it).

I think they're gonna have to make some moves internally, and through trade to shore up the back of the rotation. One injury to a starter right now, and we're screwed. I think they're suspect at catcher, and shortstop. Outfield doesnt look great but when Crawford and Ellsbury return it'll be awesome so I give them a pass on that spot for now. Just don't think the current team has it this year, and that's ok with me. We're getting rid of some big contracts right now, and this team will be completely different in two years.

As I mentioned this morning I actually think this all works to the Sox benefit. That is not to say that V had it all planned this way. I don't believe that for a minute.

This'll be worked out and forgotten when we take care of Texas and the evil empire.

See, the problem is.....that everyone just expects the problem to go away.

There are issues with this team behind closed doors, and they never addressed it. BV is in for a world of hurt.

The issues that they never addressed existed prior to BV's arrival. The Red Sox refused to dump some contracts of some talented bad apples, Beckett to name one. They had take some harsh action to send a messaage that was never sent. This would fester no matter whom they brought in as Manager
