These manufactured feuds between Bobby V and Cherrington and now the supposed terrible impact on the team made by Schilling is just so much ado about nothing. I'll bet more that 20 of the guys from the opening day roster don't even know what he said' date=' unless some idiot from the press quotes him in a press conference.[/quote']

Exactly.

I know that's how I feel when it comes to Schill. Some posters have expressed negativity about his political convictions. What does that have to do with anything?
Bill Lee was a left wing nut job, and that never bothered me. I still like the guy. He was a great competitor and a Yankee killer. For that, he should hold a special place for Sox fans, and his legacy pales next to Big Schill's.

Like I said earlier, no one was a bigger blowhard than Ted Williams. I guess the great icon was just lucky that he didn't play in the days of 24/7 news cycles and the internet. He's still on a pedestal for me.

Any team that gets distracted by the opinions of commentators is just looking for excuses. I'm not big on excuses. What Schilling says doesn't matter. What Shaughnessey and all the others say doesn't matter. This talk of distraction is ridiculous.

I wasn't referring to the team being distracted but fans. In any case I maintain that Lackey's presence in the clubhouse during the season is not helpful. I'd hope his vistits would be kept to a minimum. I don't care for Lackey. His self pity and lack of character, especially while he is "rehabing" will not be a positve. IMO

You are flat out wrong about Williams being a blowhard. Williams while opinionated was opinionated about something he was an expert at, hitting. I don't recall him making gratutious remarks about other players. He had battles with the sport writers and didn't liked being booed. He was known for his loyality. Williams could be difficult and he had a prickly personality. ( I've worked with people who knew him and that's they way they described him) But when he spoke it was usually about something he knew a lot about, hitting and fishing. He hardly fit the definition of a blowhard. If Schilling talked about pitching then he would hardly be considered a blowhard.

I hoped he would rehab in TX and we would not have to see his Gomer Pyle face again...but THAT is apparently not to be.

He told pitchers how to pitch and he was completely overbearing about fishing and hunting (although he didn't do a lot of hunting). Williams didn't have many interests other than hitting or fishing so there wasn't alot for him to offer opinions about. He didn't like the tough camp that Dick Williams ran in 1967 and he was open with his criticism and left camp early. Teddy Ballgame is hero of mine warts and all, and the guy had his warts. However, he was a huge blowhard. In his first camp with the Red Sox, he was so arrogant and annoying to the veterans that everyone hated him. When he got sent down, he told the veteran outfielders that he would be back and he would make more money than all of them combined. He was beyond prickly.

Schilling knows more about video games than managing, and he's not very good at that either.

Great pitcher, a blowhard, video game addict, right wing nutball who needed corporate welfare to grow his company. You can't denegrate his Sox contributions, but saying he'll never be wrong is laughable.

Thaaannnnkkkk youuuuu

Blashemy!

He's my hero as a ball player but as a person, he's a loudmouth who has to sound off on anything and everything, he's nothing but a media talking head now, albeit a talking head who's one of red sox nation's greatest heroes.

We'll just agree to disagree. Unlike Schilling he managed a team. A blowhard is someone like you and me who pontificate about things of which we aren't expert.

He wasn't an expert about pitching. He was an expert at hitting pitching, but not pitching. When I saw Teddy Ballgame at Cooperstown when I went up for Yaz's induction, I was awestruck, but I've done a lot of reading about the guy, and he was a blowhard. I still love him, but that doesn't eliminate the warts.

I knew you would like it. BTW the you to which I refer is second person plural. So of course you are included as well.:D

We're all blowhards here, amen to that.

A distinction without a difference, Ted knew what he was talking about.

Everything about Schilling's Gossip Queen moment was unprofessional. As a former baseball player, he knows what he shouldn't do or say about a team. A media person may get away with doing it because he is just a media dog. When Schilling broke that contract with the baseball brotherhood, he became a pitiful attention whore.....even more than he was in the past.

IMO' date=' so does Schilling.[/quote']

So! It is understandable and expected that he would say it. It may be accurate but in the ultimate scheme of things it changes nothing. So in one sense it is meaningless.

If I said that he was bloated, fat and self important, that might be meaningless....but that he broke a code of baseball, not meaningless at all.....

From WEEI

Beckett: Is Schilling one of our pitchers?

By: Paul Flannery

Responding to Curt Schilling's criticism that things aren't going well in Red Sox camp under manager Bobby Valentine, Sox pitcher Josh Beckett said in an interview with The Big Show, "I haven't seen him around this year. Is he one of our pitchers?"

"I haven't seen him around," Beckett continued. "I'd think if someone knew that much they'd probably be a little closer to it. Game's a lot easier from over there [as a media petrson], I think. As far as him speaking about how things are being run, I haven't seen him around here to where he would know that much."

Beckett said that things have been "great" with Valentine and he's particular liked some of the changes he's made for the pitchers.

"My legs have never felt this good coming out of spring training," Beckett said. "We don't shag during spring training. [Valentine] actually said that, 'We run a shag-free spring training.' Some of that, not being on my feet during spring training has been helped. I definitely think some of the stretching and workouts have paid off well for me."

The pitcher acknowledged that the Sox have to get off to a better start this season.

"We definitely have to do better than we did last April, especially at the beginning," he said. "I know we started to kind of play a bit better toward the end of April, but we definitely have to do better than we did last April. You can't put yourself in that hole and expect to dig yourselves out of it again. I think everybody here knows that and we're going to go out and play our tails off."

I completely sold that Schilling is starting this whole mess since he has or had a bromance

with Francona. I appreciate Schilling and everything he has brought to this franchise but

i think it's time to shut up and be objective.

Don't you think that its Schilling's job to bring up items of a controversial nature regardless of how it affects the team? He works for ESPN, not the Boston Red Sox. When Valentine worked for ESPN he also was critical of some of our players. For what the Blowhard did for this team I will always have a soft spot for him. But even if he never played for us, he is doing what he is supposed to be doing for his employer.

As to the content of what he is saying, I hope he is right. I want some discomfort amongst the players. That way I know that meaningful change is probably taking place. Had the Fenway Country Club continued there would be no rumblings of discontent because the players did whatever they wanted to do, including walking all over their manager.

This is all good folks. Its a positive development. Progress is being made. Win or lose this year we should be well positioned to make a run at a ring next year or the year after that.
