I read somewhere that between NYC and NY state taxes, you'd have to take off another 10% off a Yankee salary. 10% of 161 million is 16.1 million. So if that's true, then the deals, in terms of real money, look more like this:

Yankees - Rangers

5/112.5 - 5/100

6/129.6 - 6/120

7/144.9 - 7/140

I'm assuming Texas didn't bump up the AAV. So if you're trying to decide between NY and Texas, and the price difference is $4.9 million in real dollars, is that amount enough to sway Lee?

It's a lot closer than people think.

And there were similar tweets out of the left coast in 2009 when CC signed saying that he was gonna sign in SF.

Did anyone even follow Twitter back then?

First reliable info I've heard today ... from a YES employee

People who have spoken to Yankee officials said they have expressed a bit of skepticism about signing Lee

Question: Do you go to 7/175 if you're Cashman? They did offer $25M AAV for 5 years.

I'd say no because they have to keep it at CC's AAV or lower. Also, he's a pitcher. 7 years @ 25MM for something so fragile as a pitcher? Just say thank you for listening and do your job as a GM, visit different options. If they have no Plan B, I think it is an indicator how badly the Yankees were prepared for this off-season.

I also read somewhere that Ron Washington was leaning towards Cliff Lee returning next season' date=' probably from the same source about the Yankee executive.[/quote']Why, was Lee his cocaine connection?

Has anyone heard anything about Martin or any other bullpen arms other than Downs. All i have heard is that we are hard after Martin offered him a contract and its down to the Three AL east teams..

What about the relievers all i Know is that we have offers out.

After that Busy Week of Signings I NEED THEO to do something. lol

It wonder if the rest of the relievers on the market were offered similar contracts by a few of the teams that look to be contenders in the AL and are waiting to see where Lee signs before they sign.

All good things come to an end and that could be the case for Albert Pujols and the Cardinals after 2011. The top end of baseball's flesh market appears to be expanding upward again and, unless Pujols really will give the Cardinals a hometown discount as he has hinted at in the past, it may be impossible for a team in baseball's 21st largest television market to hang onto him. The Cardinals are beginning to express concern for the first time about whether Pujols will fit their budget once the eight-year deal he signed before 2004 ends at the end of the season.

Who's going to be a able to afford him? Presumably the Yankees and Red Sox will be out of the running because I doubt he will want to DH half the season.

So I guess that leaves the Nats, Cubs, ,Tigers, Angels and Dodgers as teams that have some combination of vacancy at 1B/DH/3B(?), can afford the contract and have shown a willingness to pay one player 20M+ AAV. Does he really leave St. Louis for any of those teams? Him going to Wrigley would be interesting :D

The Sox should trade A-gon for Pujols. It solves the handedness issues, the Cardinals get an elite 1B afterall, Pujols gets his epic contract and everyone goes home happy. Hey, a guy can dream, right?

It looks like the Rangers are going hard after Adrian Beltre. This is both good news and bad news because it would make it really likely that Cliff Lee signs with the Yankees, but it would give the Red Sox the 26th overall pick and a high supplemental as well.

The Yankees have continued to be aggressive on free agent catcher Russell Martin, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney. Olney would not be surprised if we hear of an agreement at any time.

Martin is reportedly weighing offers from the Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays, with the Yankees' proposal being for one year. Since Martin has less than five years of service time, he'd be under team control for 2012 as an arbitration eligible player.

Strange move. I wonder if it makes Montero expendable?

It seems like it'd be a backup move in case Lee doesn't sign with the Yankees, so the Yankees can dangle Montero out there and pick up a front line starter that way.

Considering that he's supposedly "close to signing" I doubt he'd go to the Yanks over the Sox if it means he'll just be a backup in one versus a starter in the other.

He would be a starter in both. Who would start over Martin in NYY?? Cervelli? Cause Posada is a DH.
