  1. This is excellent news for the Sox who will come away with the 26th pick in the draft if this deal is completed. Gonzo, Crawford, Jenks, Wheeler, the 19th and 26th pick in the draft plus 2 sandwich picks. Not a bad off-season for the Red Sox.
  2. I agree with you regarding their lineup, but I'm not sure its going to matter. Citizens Bank Park is probably the most hitter-friendly park in the majors, which should help their offense and I think their rotation is good enough to make up for the deficiencies they have on offense.
  3. This worked out perfectly for the Sox. The Yankees don't get their #1 target. Texas loses out which opens the door for them to spend that money on Beltre (which would net the Sox a 1st round pick), and Lee goes to a National League team. Sure the Phillies will have the best rotation in the majors, which would make them very difficult to beat if the two teams were lucky enough to make the World Series, but its probably the best result the Sox could have asked for.
  4. It wonder if the rest of the relievers on the market were offered similar contracts by a few of the teams that look to be contenders in the AL and are waiting to see where Lee signs before they sign.
  5. Downs' contract has a 1MM incentive for games finished. That would lead me to believe that he expects to be closing.
  6. I think you will soon find out with this ownership group that it is actually better news for fans when they say they AREN'T going to do anything than it is when they say they will be doing something. They like to work under the radar.
  7. This is why I believe Mike Cameron is on his way out of town, despite what the FO says. His 8MM is two bullpen arms right there and if we're just looking for a RH OF off the bench, there are cheaper options available. Xavier Nady might take a lesser contract to re-establish his value. Austin Kearns is also available. If you can get one of these guys for less than 2 million, you still generate 6 million to go out and get a reliever (or two).
  8. I'm pretty sure they could get Beltran right now for Ellsbury, straight up. No need to throw the other two in. If they're trading all three of those guys its for someone like Justin Upton or Matt Kemp.
  9. I think this is a ridiculous overpay, but I am ridiculously happy about it. This move has John Henry written all over it. I think as soon as the World Series was over in 2009 he was kicking himself for not shelling out more money for Mark Teixeira and promised himself it would never happen again.
  10. I have a feeling they're going to come away with Beltre and Crawford. Crawford makes a lot of sense for them given his style of play, and after hearing Scioscia's comments on his 3B situation today, I think they'll be in on Beltre.
  11. Nah. He's a type B. I still would rather see them focus on Fuentes and Guerrier, but we wouldn't have to give up our 1st rounder.
  12. I thought I saw a comment recently by Terry Francona saying that Ellsbury was still feeling pain in his ribs. If this is the case, I'd say high (assuming they can find a trade partner).
  13. Can't say I blame you. I would have assumed Crawford would be ranked higher than VMart if I hadn't seen the list.
  14. That'd make sense. And I agree that its a long shot and that Willingham is the much more likely option. It was just an interesting idea that popped into my mind.
  15. If you're the Dodgers, do you listen if Theo calls you and offers Papelbon, Lowrie, and a low tier prospect for Kemp?
  16. With the Dodgers discussing the possibility of trading Broxton with Loney to Milwaukee for Fielder, does anyone think there is a chance that they might be interested in Papelbon if the trade went through? And if so, what would the Sox want from them?
  17. I've always liked Lowrie, but would trade him in a second if someone wanted him. EDIT: Not to say nobody would be interested in him. My point was more that I'd have no problem trading him for someone like AGon or Upton.
  18. Did I miss Lavarnway cracking our top-10 prospects? I'm down in DC and have kinda been out of it for a while.
  19. The guy who said it was "close" now says its "very close". I guess that's progress. Just heard from a second source that #Padres-#RedSox deal for Adrian Gonzalez is very close. #MLB 9 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone
