Rotoworld:

ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports that the Red Sox are eying Brian Fuentes, Jesse Crain and Matt Guerrier as bullpen upgrades.

The Sox don't have anyone locked in from the left side in their bullpen, so Fuentes might make the most sense. Fuentes reportedly is seeking $6-8 million per season and still wants to be a closer, but he seems unlikely to get either of his wishes.

Just as I said. Hopefully we can sign 2 of them.

I'm betting Philly is the mystery team :D

Good call:

Phillies unveiled as mystery team for Lee

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff December 13, 2010 07:24 PM

Ken Rosenthal of Fox has learned the identify of the mystery team in the Cliff Lee derby. The Phillies are it.

Wait a second, didn't the Phillies have Lee last season before trading him to Seattle for a bag of rocks?

Presumably Red Sox fans are enjoying watching the Yankees and Rangers squirm.

By the time this is over, Lee will get $25 million a year from the Yankees and Mrs. Lee a bullet and spit-proof luxury box behind the plate for every game.

I hate Cliff Lee.

He's being disrespectful and downright mean by taking his time to think things through on a decision that will affect him and his family for quite possibly the next seven years. It's not like he has a ton of factors to consider. Douche.

I'd love to see the Red Sox work out a trade with the Phillies or Rangers to pick up a reliever or a RH bat and free up money to help one of those 2 teams sign Cliff Lee. It'd be a great way to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Oswalt... why would you want to help create that? No way would the Yankees or Red Sox or anyone be able to sniff that.

I'd take the Yankees down with me.

First off, we would have given up a draft pick for Scott Downs. Second there's a difference between what a reliever wants and what a reliever gets. Just because some of the other relievers want more than what Downs got, doesn't mean that they will get what Downs got. Until those relievers sign, you can't compare them to what Downs got.

Edit: And another point is that because teams had to give up a draft pick for Downs, meant that Downs had much less leverage in negotiating prices so that meant that he was more likely to get less money. The other relievers don't come with a draft pick in the price tag, so they have more leverage and can get more money from teams. So even IF Downs cost less money, that doesn't mean that he was cheaper and was the better choice for the Red Sox.

To your point, we'd be helping ourselves in the trade and f***** the Yankees over. It works on multiple levels for me, assuming that they had a player of value for us in return. Obviously I wouldn't take on a player's salary just to f*** the Yankees, but if they had a player that we could use and that salary would free up the Phillies chance to sign Lee, then I'd do it.

If he signs with Philly, they have to be the favorites to take the National League. Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, and Hamels at 1-4 in their rotation would be ridiculous to say the least.

The Phillies would have the best rotation in this generation. Halladay-Lee-Oswalt-Hamels. Holy s***.

No joke. Their offense might take a hit considering the loss of Werth and the fact that they'd likely have to move Ibanez to afford Lee, but it wouldn't matter if all four stay healthy and effective. In the post-season, that rotation would literally be unstoppable.

That said, all four of those guys have weaknesses and they all can be beat when they go up against a lineup full of tenacious grind it out players (ie: the Red Sox) as San Fran showed in the NLCS and the World Series.
