What I said is that with Hanley instead of Beckett and Lowell, you may have won one championship anyways. You wouldn't have made the Lugo deal, who knows who you might have gotten in 2007. Fine, Beckett is a top of the rotation starter, an ace. Hanley is one of the top 5 players in the game. I don't think Beckett is. Also, not saying it was a bad deal, but it wasn't a good one. It was a deal that really helped both teams. Would the Red Sox have been better off without making the deal? No one can say for sure, and a strong argument can be made both ways.

Trading is not a strong point of this regime. Remember Gagne? Getting V-Mart was in my opinion not the best move, getting Lee would have been. The strength of this FO is it's ability to sign and develop their own players. That's all I said.

Also, I answered the Scutaro thing. Nice of you idiots to read..but it is New England after all.

You talk about others making s*** up, yet run your mouth about things you know nothing about.

Who's at the bottom of the barrel in credibility again?

Check the stats before making an argument or STFU.

Not often you see a contradiction in consecutive sentences.

The deal DIRECTLY lead to the 2007 title. You can debate hypotheticals about what would've happened if the deal had never been made but a strong argument can't be made based solely on hypotheticals when the opposing point of view can just point to the 2007 title. You may have a leg to stand on if Hanley has led the Marlins to a playoff run at some point but it hasn't happened.

Gom, the sox do not win the 2007 world series without Josh Beckett. They went to 7 games in Cleveland, and Beckett won two of them. No matter what kinda killer streak Hanley was on, he wouldnt have won 4 games on his own (which Beckett did).

What? Have you not learned yet that pitching wins Championships? How have you not gotten that yet? Don't let the large run totals fool you from this years WS. It was the first WS series to ever take place in 2 little league parks.

Great pitching > Great hitting

Funny thing is at the end of 2006 everyone was calling it our worst disaster trade since the Babe. I spent a lot of keystrokes trying to defend that deal in that offseason.

Yea if I recall people where calling it the Lowell trade and saying Beckett was the throw in haha. People had a right to be upset though, the Sox traded their best prospect for a guy who gave up 35 homers runs and had a 5.30 ERA. As a side note, I wonder if that trade would have been made if Theo was in control of the team at that time. Remember, it was Ben and Jed running the team as co-GM's at that point when Theo left.

I have a hard time believing there was a point where Theo didn't have any input in what was going on during that haitus

The foundation for that trade was probably created long before the trigger was pulled. But whatever.

I honestly don't see the Sox trading Buchholz. With or without a contract extension window. If it can be done with out him they might be more intrigued to really get involved. It will also depend on what exactly his contract demands are. If he wants 5 or 6 years I think they would pass. So unless those circumstances are met, I don't see the Sox trading for Halladay.

All and all I think Roy starts the season in Toronto, then traded towards the TDL for a CC type package. And then he hits the open market next off season.

I'm shocked -- shocked-- that Nu Yawk's Jon Heyman picks the Yankees as #1 destination for Halladay.

I guess I should be happy he made the Red Sox "1A".

Why do you make Heyman out to be such a homer? That's also what everyone said last year when he broke the Teixeira story.

He's not a homer.

He's one of Scott Boras' mouthpieces.

Completely different things.

I didn't check the stats...I admit it. Whatever. I dropped the debate when I realized that he had a monster year...he just always seems to kill us.

At least I didn't LIE about them, or accuse others of lying. Go away. You are nothing but trash.

What is that based on? Again, that's what a lot of people said when he broke the Teixeira story. People were claiming he was just driving up the price for Boston.

You never check the stats and talk as you if you know them. THAT is lying.

I made one mistake confusing PA's with AB's and that's all you have to go on.

Who lacks credibility here?

It's a wonder why the Sox don't hire you to be the FO's PR man.

count how many times I said it. my god.

It's called hyperbole.

To add some substance to this thread, Tito was on Dale and Holley today on WEEI and the most interesting thing I heard was he expressed that he was a *big* fan of John Lackey and given the choice between a big bat or another frontline pitcher, he'd take the frontline pitcher every time.
