10 bucks a ride. My guess is that you could charge the same.

Emma has no price for "rides" (I'm priceless), just prices to talk to lowly taxi cab drivers like you ;)

Haven't you ever seen "Taxi Cab Confessions"?

Despite interest from several other clubs, Heyman sees the Aroldis Chapman bidding as ultimately a Yankees-Red Sox battle.

What's everyone's opinion on Chapman?

Why is there a picture of Ricky Henderson in this thread?

Because Ricky Henderson is famous for talking about himself in the 3rd person.

Ricky is the best baseball player ever. even though Ricky was one dimensional :lol:

My opinion is that international pitchers with better records than Chapman, who are much more known quantities than Chapman, have not been worth the money that Chapman is asking for.

Certainly Chapman has to start his first season with any club in AA, especially if his command and mechanics are in any way questionable (IIRC they are).

And can we get a definite age on this guy PLEASE?

on wikipedia, it says he turned 21 on February 28. birth year '88

I'd like to get something a bit more definite than Wikipedia. We have professional promoters out there right now trying to sell teams on spending millions on the guy and I'm sure at least one of them has editing privileges.

Too early to tell. I would hope that he has a workout for all teams involved. There is one thing definite about Chapman, he has one of the best left handed fastballs we have ever seen in terms of velocity. RJ in his prime matched him, but thats about it. If he is 21, then he could potentially throw HARDER, which blows my mind. He can comfortably sit 96-98mph and can max out at 102-103mph. That's video game fastball right there

But along with that come questions about his secondary stuff and his command. I have heard more conflicting reports from scouting sites and from scouts themselves who have seen him pitch. "He's got a lights out slider ZOMG!!!" "His slider is inconsistent" etc, etc, etc. I dont have any reports on him having a third pitch, although his work in the WBC was out of the pen IIRC, so he may not have needed a third pitch.

What I can tell you is this. If he is 21 yrs old, then his basic package and basic tools is better than any pitcher at his age, period. Left handed, young, 100+mph FB, plus potential slider. Sounds at the very least like a clone of Billy Wagner. But it sounds like teams are going to try him in the rotation and see how it goes for him. He might be worth well more than $60 million, but the unknown quantity plus the lack of workouts has me skeptical that he will ultimately be worth it. Now as a fan, I want to see him in Yankee pinstripes, price be damned! Even if he ends up as Mo's successor, he'd still be worth something

It was reported I believe he registered with the WBC as being 26 years old. But who really knows?

Someone better. A 21 year old chapman is a dang good prospect. A 26 year old Chapman is a lefthanded Orlando Hernandez -- at best.

Left handed Orlando Hernandez? Dude, El Duque was a great find, especially for a guy who debuted at age 32, if you believe the BDay he gave. Rumor has it, he was 36 or 37 when he signed. If Chapman is 26, he is still worth a TON of money

It's not a bad thing if you can control yourself

I mean

Emma does not think this is bad, unless she cannot control herself

Sure, but if he's 21, the guy could finish up there with Sabathia, Lester and Santana. I think you'll concede there's a pretty huge difference.

Translation:

He sees him signing with the Yankees, so buy into the hype now.

I say pass. No thanks.

Was listening to WEEI and they were talking about Kevin Towers. Apparently, Towers was interviewed and said that it is not about "if" they trade Adrian Gonzalez, but "when". Now, Towers was just relieved of duty, but I would assume that the comment he just made had some sort of inside info to it

Jimmy agrees that Towers is spilling inside info, but Jimmy thinks Towers should keep his fkn mouth shut and be a professional. Jimmy doesn't like fkn blabbermouths.

Has everyone on the site gone 3rd person? Or is Jimmy some guy on WEEI?

I hope it's true though. Although Hoyer did say at his press conference that an Agon extension was high on the docket of "things to do". Just sayin.

If Hoyer has been told he has to trade Agon, I would expect the Sox to have a slight advantage. If only because Hoyer knows the Sox farm system.

Should be interesting though. Will the Sox try and bring Agon in, or re-open the rumored deal that would have sent Agon to Seattle, and Felix to Boston.

I can't wait until the damn WS is over, that's when things get really fun:thumbsup:

Things only get "fun" when the Sox start leaking who they are going after and when their cards end up on the table. I hope that they are quiet about the big moves they want to make.

As for Towers, I believe him and imagine that the best thing Hoyer could do would be to move AG for a huge haul. He shouldn't look at the Sox only and I don't expect that he will. However, I think the Sox could put together a really, really nice package for him. If they got anything including Kelly and Westmoreland they would be in great shape combined with the haul they got from ChiSox for Peavy. Those guys could be franchise-level talents.

I know people will argue that they're too far down the line to be considered great prospects, but that's a shortsighted view. Any GM who turns down great (but young) talent for lesser (but older) talent shouldn't hold his job for very long. It is the job of the franchises to scout the players and to be able to discern the TRUE "projects to be like Grady Sizemore" from the "might project like Grady Sizemore" players. Those players DO exist, there's a crop of them with every draft class and I think the Sox have a couple really, really good young players.

Also, if you have a moment go watch some of Adrian Gonzalez's clips on mlb.com. He's a beast who hits the ball with more ferocity than anyone on the Sox currently.

Like Ricciardi refusing to trade Jose Cruz for a young David Wright even though Cruz was a FA at the end of the season?

Yes, or like the Guardians refusing to part with Bartolo Colon for, I believe, a very young Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore (and one other player) because they are too young to have an immediate impact. Looking back it is foolish. With forethought it is potentially the same situation.
