    I see nothing atypical about Mayer. 1,411 PAs in the minors, with an .818 in AAA. I see nothing in his background that suggests a development that is different than other top prospects.

    It's not an either/or situation. You need an ace + a #1 + a #2. If you can do that, you can add a couple of aging league-average SPs for $10M.

    Lester isn't the slam-dunk that folks think he is. He cost $155M for 12.2 bWAR. He's worth it because they won a WS, but in his final 4 years, he averaged 1 bWAR/season.

    It does, It values closers on a replacement basis. So a guy like Wakefield, has 3000+ IPs, even at a minimum upgrade from a replacement player, yields a huge surplus. No matter how well a closer performs, his surplus won't be as high if he only has 900 IPs.

    A lot of those names were mentioned, but mostly a mirage. The ones talked about every day were mostly failures.

    Trading away overrated prospects is DD's superpower. That said. he inherited 4 young, a top-tier farm, and was allowed to out-spend every team in BB. He had Devers, Bogaerts, Betts & JBJ, traded away a top-10 and a top-5 prospect, and had the money to sign Price & JDM. It worked out great, but it wasn't exactly a magic show.

    He inherited a bloated payroll, and four years of DD drafts which resulted in nothing but Duran. I'm not saying Bloom did anything, but he didn't inherit much either.

Even after a pandemic has left MLB facing a 60-game season and significant uncertainty, Betts isn't rethinking his decision. "I don't regret turning down that," Betts said of Boston's offer, according to Andy McCullough of The Athletic. The way Mookie responded, it feels like $300M was the real number. If it wasn't $300M, would Mookie not have corrected it? And if it was only $29M, the difference is diminimus.

    I seriously doubt Scott knows. I've listened to thousands of people spouting opinions. The more vague they are, the less I believe them.

    Of course it is all speculation. None of us were there. You asked why I thought he was traded. My speculation is as good as anyone else's speculation.

    If Scott was there, and is spilling the beans, then how close was it? He either knows the number, or he doesn't. If he knew the number, I'm pretty sure he'd have mentioned it.

    From a source I think you're pretty likely to believe: Bellhorn04 Ownership drew the line at around $300 million and wouldn't budge from that, and then gave the go-ahead to trade him.

    So? Mookie might have been looking at the same thing as me and thought the future was 5 year away. The fact that the team made the playoffs once in that 5-year period backs that up.

    No specifics. "He would've signed for less'? Less than what? How much was he offered? How much did he ask for? People that are at the table usually have more details.

    And that supports my idea that Betts wanted out. I think that too many fans think that Boston is the ultimate BB destination. That was true once upon a time (with NYY), but those days are long past. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the idea that Betts took a look at the same thing I (and many others) looked. A mediocre team, with an already expensive payroll, with no help coming from the farm, and decided he didn't want to spend a large part of his career watching the RS rebuild.

    I read most of the Scott quotes, but it didn't feel like a compelling argument. I expected to read something along the lines of 'the RS offered x, Betts wanted y, the RS countered with z, that they talked to the LAD, SDP, etc.' But there wasn't really much of that. Like the article implied, it feels like Scott is trying to establish his on-line credentials.

    Well, Jackson Merrill is hitting a robust .600 OPS and Judge has a .593 over his last 12 games, so maybe a 3-team trade can be arranged.

    Do both. I don't see an unproven Kyson being worth as much as 3.5 years of Schmitt. I think Bello will provide value. And it might be complicated enough that the SF fans won't object. With the usual disclaimer that the fans that hate Bello's contract will scream to high heavens that we traded away a future HOF.

    BTV is something to reference just for approximate values. It doesn't work well for RPs, prospects, or long-term contracts.
