    Same thing I always say. I think Mookie wanted to move on, and was professional enough to tell the FO to get whatever they could for him. For all I know, he might have told them to trade him to the Dodgers. I'd have no problem with that, and I'd respect him for saying so.

    I read a lot of opinions. A lot of fans recognize that Alonso, Bregman, Marte, Bichette, etc., were not the answer. They want an answer, but also understand that committing to bad l/t contracts is NOT the answer.

    That's not a real analogy, unless you are a uber-small market. A bad season for the RS is maybe 78 wins and in contention for a WC until the TDL.

    Outside of the need to win, no FO cares what the fans think. We still have fans that think Alonso, Bregman, and the Tolle+Mayer for Marte is the answer. And that's not 'use to', but I mean right now.

    Even after all these years, the only thing that matters is whether or not we were going to lose him. My guess is that he told the FO that he intended on leaving and to get what they could for him. Seems like a Betts thing to do. So the RS took his advice and moved him.

    75 PC/5 is about normal. After the start he had, that's pretty good. Saves us from having to use the BP. I'll be real happy with a win, but I'd be even happier if we could get a couple more runs and spare our key guys.

    We are so lost in the ABS arena. Instead of asking so many vague questions, yielding so many vague answers, I'd love to hear a reporting ask what the RS overall strategy is for challenging strikes. Start with simple stuff, like, if there are 2 outs, no one on, and an 0-2 count, can a hitter challenge a strike call? Is there a basic framework? I haven't seen one. But just to start with, there is no reason to leave challenges on the table. If you get to the 8th with two challenges left, challenge if you have at least a 40% chance. 49 games * 2 challenges = 98 opps. 66 challenges - 30 overturns = 36 challenges burned. That means we left 62 challenges on the table. That seems almost impossible.

    12 innings in the pros. 50 innings in the minors with 27 walks. There is nothing wrong with his stats, but nothing outstanding about them either.

    The relevancy might be that his injury gives us a window to bring in new talent, and/or replace him. Or perhaps start the transition of Mayer to SS, since it easier to find offense at 2B than SS.

    I thought it best to get it out of the way earlier in the day. And there was an abundance of low-hanging fruit on which I could focus.

    That's makes more sense. but I am trying to get more focus. Maybe a little bit more science or math to the situation. I think most people will accept that Duran to duplicate 2024. So then there is no reason to expect him to duplicate his DFA-equivalent 2026 start. Is it not reasonable then, to default to using either his 2025 stats, or his career stats to develop a range of expectations for what his numbers will look like if he continues to lead off for us?

    We got him for nothing, and he wasn't high on our depth chart. I was a little surprised SF gave up on him so quickly, but he spent parts of three years with them, with very little to show for it.

    Any withdrawals? I had different issues, but I've heard differing opinions on withdrawal.

    I'd prefer two, but if we replaced Durbin with Paredes, and Paredes delivered his career-average OPS, that would then generate 86.2 wins. That would make us the #2 WC.

    3+ years is a giant range? I was going to suggest it was a bit smallish to draw a conclusion. But I'd love to hear your analysis. Do you disagree that Duran should be the lead-off hitter? And why?

    If you are cautioning Red Sox fans about not paying too much attention to small sample sizes, then your mission is doomed. Let's start with something more basic like, he is unlikely to be as good as 2024, but unlikely to be as bad as 2026 start was. Even that I doubt some will understand.

    I've mentioned this before, but part of the issue with these discussions is that some RS fans (and I am being generous with 'some') have no idea what the stats are. Hamilton's 2024 stats, extrapolated to 600 ABs, are 16 HRs, 66 SBs, with a great glove. 50% of the RS fans probably don't know that. But that said, this is the opportunity for them to come in and admit they were wrong.

    I didn't get this at all. Over the past three seasons, Duran's 1-hole numbers are: .923 .835 .742 That's perfectly adequate. A little short on OBP, but the speed and SLG make up for it. Not to mention the inconvenient truth that we have no lead-off hitter. Give me someone with a .375-.400 OBP, I will re-consider.

    I couldn't agree more. Having a playoff series where all 3 are on the road is a problem. But in a 5- or 7-game series, with Crochet, Suarez, Gray and Tolle, we have a good shot against anyone (assuming we land at least one big bat, or two decent bats).

    With this rotation, and our top-3 in the BP, there is no chance I'd sell. We only need 1-2 thumpers. Not even great ones. Paredes plus one more 2B/3B type, with a 2B being more likely. And waiting until the TDL would be malpractice.
