  1. The article doesn't say we might make that trade, only that we are still talking to StL about Donovan. IRT to saving money, the difference in salary this year is less than $500k. That's couch cushion change. And finally, Bello is #110 out of 127 in K%-BB%. That's not good. The IPs he puts up are important, but do you really think that the addition of Donovan would not out-weigh the departure of Bello? Bello's slot would like be taken by Early of Tolle.
  2. I both predicted and projected that he would say that. I told you that past events can predict future events.
  3. I like to see the kids as well. But you will always need other players. Every team seems to need pitchers, and Contreras is likely only here because of Casas' injury.
  4. I mean, some of these people sold their houses, bought a house in FL, and sold their house 6 months later.
  5. I find these things useful exercises. It keeps fans grounded in reality.
  6. It's funny, but people moving down to FL, and moving back to NY 6 months later because of the heat, is a real thing.
  7. I was just making fun of the idea that someone will project one team to have a better record that another team, but also claims that you cannot project anything.
  8. He also said that you had to treat your pool water every single day. I remember a long discussion we had They had summer attire and NY did not. I said they went from an air-conditioned house to an air-conditioned car, to an air-conditioned office. NY goes from a walk to a bus or subway, with subway stations often 100 degrees, back to walking to the office. NY suffered much more from the heat.
  9. They would enough for approximately the best record in BB. That would rank us ~ #2 on offense and about #5 in pitching. Philly most closely approximated those numbers and had the #2 record and #5 Py.
  10. So, if projections don't count for anything, then all 30 teams are identical, right?
  11. One of my co-workers told me that the difference between NY and Houston was that, in NY, it is almost always nice in the morning, even if it could get unbearable in the afternoon. In Houston, it never cools off in the summer.
  12. I wouldn't do it for Rafaela. Duran or Abreu, maybe. It's all guesswork. We don't know if the RS consider Campbell as someone who is about to drop out, or as someone that's only a half-step behind Anthony. Minor league player of the year is not so very long ago. For all I know, Campbell could be untouchable.
  13. It's always tough. The benefit of being a big-market team is offset by being surrounded by other big-market teams.
  14. Sure, I'd have made that trade. But the O's gave up 10x as much for Baz.
  15. Good Mexican food. Once I went down to Houston a few times, I could no longer enjoy local Mexican food.
  16. That seems to be a reasonable assumption, in most non-baseball matters at least.
  17. Or, how do we know the state wasn't named after him? Maybe he and and a fried were driving through, got in some trouble, and were referred to as the 'two utes'.
  18. BOS: Paredes & Alcantara HOU: K Campbell MIA: B Mathews That's the one I would do, and might make some sense. The BTV ratings seem way off. I see no way that Ryan is a 52, and Alcantara is only a 10. That said, while I don't like Matthews, that doesn't mean Miami might not like him. And a #1/28 with a #68 ranking is at least a good start towards Alcantara. I also don't think Houston would trade both Matthews & Paredes for Campbell. But again, at a minimum, it is a good start. I think it would cost the RS a bit more, but not major pieces. Maybe one of those 8/9/10 SPs that we have.
  19. How do you think UtahSox wound up in Utah?
  20. But you didn't really have a point. Correct if I'm wrong, but I believe you said that we are the only AL team not to sign a FA. But to make that correct, you have to include maybe 10 teams that signed low-level FAs that are little more than waiver-bait.
  21. The author was a little weak on details. He mentioned Senga, but I think there is a -0- chance the RS would be interested in him. He costs real money and might not be as good as some of our current guys. As I've said before, I would do Duran for Tong + Vientos. Bello might be a good addition to that deal. Theoretically, we might have a few SPs that might supply 70-80% of Bello supplies. But the NYMs have to kick in something serious. For Duran + Bello, the opening bid is McLean + Vientos, and would likely need to include Benge or Jett Williams.
  22. Matthews has a gazillion minor league strikeouts.
  23. One of the reasons I don't get too far into the weeds in the off-season. This is pretty much fantasy BB for us. We don't have any idea what the FO is looking at.
  24. I'm not sure that MLB has as much of an interest in payroll caps as the fans. The poor teams don't want a high floor. The rich teams don't want a low ceiling. The $400M in taxes funds different programs. And the 110% tax that DD will have to pay for Realmuto at least nominally reins in some spending.
  25. How many teams have acquired a player better than Gray? How many teams have acquired two players as good as Gray + Contreras?
