  1. Assuming the Phillies re-sign Realmuto, they will be in the $320-325M range. That extra $100M would sure come in handy.
  2. Busts = 11 Negatives = 4 Positives = 8 Too early or too close for the rest.
  3. Not all of those are "real" FAs by some RSN standards. Certainly Papi, Millar, Mueller, and Napoli were probably considered dumpster diving by some fans.
  4. And they averaged 88 wins between them.
  5. Seeing this from the WS perspective, they won't likely be competitive for two years. If the dude can't catch up with a FB, then they out from under the contract in two years, when their window opens. If he is the real deal, then they have him under arbitration for 4 more years. Unlike most FAs, where poor teams get ruined by bad signings, I think this is just the opposite. A playoff contender can't risk a starting spot, even if they can risk the money. A bad team can.
  6. But the point being is that insurance companies don't cover accidents (injuries in this case) that have already happened. It's possible that the RS have coverage for 2026, but they certainly couldn't get coverage for 2025.
  7. I'm surprised Cherington is still there. Skenes was an automatic 1/1, so they get no credit there. And their other drafts were weak.
  8. DD inherited Wheeler, Sanchez, Suarez, Nola, Harper, Stott, Realmuto, and Bohm, and currently has the 2nd highest payroll in baseball, and has averaged 90 wins. Preller has been in the top 5 in payroll over the past 5 years and has averaged 86.6 wins.
  9. Too bad. It would've been nice to frame the check.
  10. I remember when some Red Sox fans wanted to move Pedey to SS, Youk to 2nd, and start Papi at 1st.
  11. Most likely, Marte and Bregman. Both are too close to that magic age of 34.
  12. I'd like to see some documentation on that. It's kind of like you're saying that you bought a car that was gutted in a fire for $20k. And the insurance company still insured it for $20k. I'm pretty sure insurance companies don't get rich by issuing policies and settling claims and damaged property.
  13. Oddly enough, Sandoval is just the type of FA some fans are clamoring for right now.
  14. I doubt we, or anyone else, know what the offers are. It could also that Brez, or anyone else, puts in an opening lowball offer just to get the party started, Then 2-3 others jump in and Brez doesn't see the need to get involved. I'd liken it to any one of us buying a house, or in my case, a castle.
  15. My guess is that this is mostly GMs dropping mis-direction, mixed in with writers making stuff up. Along with maybe having GMs with Plan A, B, C, etc. It could be that Breslow had a legitimate interest in some of these guys, but other teams had more of an interest, or a better fit, or expect to be fired without a lot of improvement, and figure they might as well mortgage the future rather than get fired.
  16. It was always this way. The same folks that are complaining today, were complaining in 2007. We have a much better chance of landing Skenes than having that change.
  17. Perhaps you should pay less attention, and I mean that as a positive. I expect us to add a hitter and an SP. I do not expect them to acquire anyone today.
  18. Everything depends on numbers, but Okamoto looks like a good fit. Even if Casas is healthy, and Mayer and Yoshida do okay, he is still a worthy backup at all three positions.
  19. Well, there is always a rumor out about players signing for huge amounts. IMHO, it will be more like $120M/4 or $150M/6.
  20. 1-I am scared of the backslide of 5 weak and non-existent seasons at the benefit of gaining two very good seasons. 2-A very important piece of my calculus was that I would be using Duran to obtain a #2, as opposed to obtaining Marte. At the end of the day, will we better off with Marte or with Suarez + Lodolo?
  21. I did this about a week ago and used the same 300. I forgot this time, but thought that if I had to reach to 300, it is still not a great recommendation. But the numbers you supply shows how steep the cut-off is.
  22. I would make the move, but you'd like to make that move last. Move Duran first, and the Teo becomes a pretty good platoon partner for Abreu and Yoshida.
  23. This is standard fare. Almost every player has value at a given price. Yoshida is surely better than the TX DHs (& 5 other teams) last year. 5 teams had 2Bs that were worse than Hamilton. And plenty of teams will have worse RPs than Hicks.
  24. IMHO, Pitt should've kept Burrows as their #5, and traded a more valuable SP for a more valuable hitter. Lowe is a one-year rental with injuries and split concerns.
  25. Hamilton is a great sub. His split issues is all that keeps him from being a starter.
