  1. Good player, but we might be buying high. He's had a fairly pedestrian career so far. He's having a good year, but his HR/FB of 23% is likely unsustainable. He was scorching hot, but went 1-16 in his last 5 games with 5 Ks. And the Nats sat him on the 17and 19th. It's pretty unusual to see regulars benched in two games so close together. It feels like an undisclosed injury or something.
  2. The current RS players are 10-62 against Baz, with -0- HRs, one triple and one double.
  3. Is Mayer a bad influence? I always thought he was too quiet, if anything.
  4. No one in here knows. Probably 90% of the RS employees don't know. But as your medical accountant, I feel safe in saying that, if the doctor said he had to have surgery, one of two things could happen: They go for a second opinion. They have the surgery. Once upon a time, I had a torn meniscus. It wasn't a huge issue, and the doctor explained the pros and cons. I declined, and 15 years later, I did have the surgery. In both cases, I feel I made the right decision. The point being is that not all medical decisions are B&W. The doctor might have given the RS a wide range of options and outcomes.
  5. I actually like to see that in a trade. When teams have guys on the block that make no sense, like Clevinger in 2020, I suspect I am inheriting some issues. When guys are traded for payroll reasons, or rebuilds, that makes more sense to me.
  6. I'd probably go this route, assuming they'd value Early more than the others, which they might not. But if we did go this route, then I'd expect that the As would want to see Early pitch to assess his arm. I don't think we have the time for that.
  7. Of course you could be right. If you called a raise with a 2-7 off-suit, and flopped 2-2-7, you'd be right, but I would still respect the opinion of the experts.
  8. With all due respect, I am still going to trust a doctor with 30 years of experience, who has seen the MRIs, and talked to the player, over that of an account, or whatever.
  9. Strangest comment of the day so far, but it is still early.
  10. It's a different case. They took on Nimmo's contract.
  11. If we know anything about human nature, it is that positive reinforcement does wonderful things for your ego. And rightfully so.
  12. The fans always know more than the doctors. That's Rule #1 in social media.
  13. You going to ante decent+ prospects to try for a minor upgrade at DH?
  14. With all due respect, who are you going to believe? One of the best doctors in the world, or a Red Sox fan? I think Breslow should take a poll of RS fans on Talksox to decide whether or not he requires an operation. IRT messaging, better to not even pay attention.
  15. That's always the first question, not the second. The reason all 30 teams look to acquire players is that they have no good choices. If Philly, for example, had a good RH OF, they wouldn't be looking for a good RH OF.
  16. I think the 'discomfort' is the medical opinion. Same with Crochet throwing or Suarez running. If you feel discomfort, you stop.
  17. If such a wager were available, I'd make a modest wager that Duran's OPS v righties the rest of the season, would be above league average.
  18. While I do think we need another bat, a Yoshi/Romy platoon and a Duran/JJ platoon, while not elegant, has a chance of success.
  19. Those relief performances by Weissert, Watson and Moran are appreciated. We had the lead, but we still needed to hold it. Not using Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten and Guerrero make them available for 2 of the 3 games in some sort of mix and match setup.
  20. I looked at that, but his bat speed is up from last year. My suspicion is that his lower hard hit percentile is related to swinging at too many pitches that he can't make hard contact with. Same with Story. You cannot make hard contact with pitches low & outside, or eye-high.
  21. That's why I go to movies. Clint Eastwood asks 4 gunmen whether or not they are going to apologize to his mule, then pulls aside his pancho to show he's serious. Pure escapism.
  22. I will concede some of that. Auditors use to spend a lot more time looking at accounts and transaction to see whether or not they made intuitive sense. Before I retired, I'd get a 120-page checklist from the auditors, and then the engagement would be over. My favorite Q was 'Are you aware of any fraud'. I really felt like answering 'yeah, the dude next door just embezzled $100M. Why do you ask?'.
  23. That can be said about every player that ever played.
  24. I've heard that about half our players this year. I'll admit that Duran is a special case, but do you need a list of all the players that we needed to DFA this year? That said, I'd have no problem with a straight platoon of Duran/JJ until the TDL.
