    No one. It's a silly argument. We might have been nowhere close to signing him. Or maybe we were $1 away and Breslow insulted Bregman's wife. This is simply an excuse, for the folks that don't like Breslow, to insult him.

    I'm not a tax guy, but that doesn't sound right. I think teams would have to accrue for salaries they pay in future years. Deferrals would make no sense otherwise. The LAD would be paying income tax on $40M more on Ohtani's salary if the tax was based strictly on a cash basis.

    We are on player away. IF Breslow wants to make a trade, he has three weeks to make one. Like I said, maybe he more in Romy/DHam that others do, which is prerogative. But he has plenty of time.

    Sure. Everyone that I think can fit will be on my list. That includes Suarez, Paredes, Baty, Smith, and others. And if Chandler or Burns were available, they'd be on my list as well.

    The top-8 is a fair comparison, but it really needs to be culled down to the #3-8. Even the NYY aren't going down the road with the NYM and LAD.

    I believe Correa was acquired to replace Paredes. And I am not super-high on Smith, but he (and almost everyone else) should be considered.

    And that would be Yoshi. I am more apt to retain Duran now that we acquired Suarez. But we almost cannot carry both Duran and Yoshi.

    If you believe that 87 is his ceiling. Houston didn't see any need to demote him last year.

    My guess is that this is posturing. The problem is that Altuve has been kind of a defensive wreck everywhere, for a few years. Their situation is identical to ours. They can move around their excess IFs, or they can trade one of them. And it doesn't get mentioned by anyone but Moon, but Houston needs to start thinking about getting Matthews some playing time. And it would be a heck of a long-shot, but I'd ask about Cam Smith with the possibility of moving him back to 3rd.

    Plenty early, I agree. But it only matters if Breslow agrees. If he thinks Romy/DHam is the solution. we have to hope for the best.

    #1. Like I've said before, we need to do more spending, but we need to eliminate NYM and LAD from the comps. Something like TO should be our target.

    Mayer will definitely be at one of those two positions, so we only need one. Past that, I agree that we don't need to settle. If we need a 2B/3B, go out and get one.

    #4 according to Forbes, but it is not quite that simple. Also according to Forbes, the NYMs lost $268M last year, the NYY lost $57M, the LAD made $11M, and Philly made $9M. There are from Forbes, so I won't debate the accuracy. But teams are allowed to make money on their investments.

    But that's different. The SDP signed Bogaerts to a $280M ($35M*8) deal disguised as an 11-year deal to reduce the AAV. He won't be around 11 years from now. Telling you I will pay you $105,000 next year for your $100,000 current year salary is just a funding mechanism.

    I've often felt the same way. I've often joined companies where people didn't know what they were doing, or maybe be uninterested in improving the processes. It made it easy for me to clean things up, and make my job much, much easier. Some felt like part-time jobs after a while. Back on target, the deferrals have an implied rate of return of maybe ~ 4.5%. For a lot of players, I think it is an easy conversation for the agent to tell the player to think of the deferrals as the fixed income part of his portfolio.

    But the player is effectively getting less. If I am going to pay you $200,000 in salary, but not pay you for one year, and the rate of return is 4%, then I am really only paying you $192,000.

    This is not directed at you or anyone else. But we have a 4.7 bWAR CF now that some would like to move. Duran had a career -0.8 bWAR at that time. I cannot imagine the reaction Duran would've gotten.
