    But they are still promoting and playing their prospects. There are some in here that think that is an uncommon practice. My point being that, even if it doesn't work out as well as a team would like, there is/was nothing wrong with promoting Mayer.

    He was and he should be a good hitter. Just not a great hitter. But to suggest that this is all related to SF is a step too far. I always focus on road stats because that's about as level a playing field as you can get. To suggest that Bregman, Bichette, Marte, Devers, etc., would be great, if only they played at Fenway, just ignores reality.

    It's actually worse than that. There are people in here that think the Red Sox are the ones making up the top-100 lists for BA, MLB, FG, and BP.

    This is just more of the same insanity as suggesting that the RS should've drafted Schlittler in the 1st round.

    They did exactly what they were supposed to do-promote a top prospect. Every team does this, as in 100% of them. How did Dominguez and Spencer Jones work out for the NYY? Jackson Holliday for the Orioles? Keaschell for the Twins. Crawford, Painter, Crews, House, Frelick, Turang, PCA.... Give me a team, and I can find at least 2-3 prospects that either never worked out, or that took 1-2 years before they worked out.

    ROTFLMAO! at some of these comments. My ideal is to join the biggest money fantasy league in the country, but I have to be able to draft my players AFTER THE SEASON IS OVER.

    I thought we should've traded Duran for some combination of Vientos, Baty or Tong. In retrospect, I was 100% correct. Why? Because all three *might've* great in Fenway Park. And, FWIW, I've advocated for bringing him back to Fenway. But not his salary.

    Over the 3 previous seasons, Devers averaged 1 2B per home 15.125 AB. This season he is averaging 1 per 13.25 AB. So he is averaging more 2B in SF than in Fenway. Want I should do HRs? He's doing better in SF for that as well.

    That's a made-up thing. I've heard some folks say the same for Bregman. Kind of a justification for criticizing not keeping them. All we know is that Devers has 3 HRs and a 52/15 K/Win 152 road ABs. That's pretty bad. Next up will be people suggesting that he'd have hit better on the road had he stayed with the RS.

    They brought in Arenado. I think if they had plans to play Lawler at 3rd, they'd have done so instead of trading for Arenado.

    I haven't read any articles on Chapman. Does one of the RS writers have anything on the RS looking to get rid of him?

    1-Tracy probably should've had Mayer sacrificing in the 3rd. That's early, but it already looked like a pitchers' duel. And probably more importantly, Mayer has a .570 OPS. 2-Similar situation in the 7th when Gasper got on to open up the inning. Having Durbin sacrifice should've been automatic. No doubt in my mind. 3-Was La Sorsa the best available left to face Jazz? Gamboa is an unknown, and Coulombe isn't exactly lighting it up. But La Sorsa is lucky to even have a job in the pros. Not to mention the fact that Jazz (SSS) has one HR v La Sorsa in 4 career ABs. That was a bad spot to test out La Sorsa.

    Was talking with some Yankee fans on the subway about that. Maddux and Key both came up. It's beautiful to watch.

    He did strike out in his first AB in spring training. That was enough for Fred to write him off.

    Doubles could be a precursor to more HRs, but that's usually in younger players. Almost every peripheral stat is down. The 83/17 is probably the most alarming. He's only 29, so he should revert. But his stats so far are pretty bad. It'll be tough for him to get back to his 3.5-4.0 bWAR days.

    The LAD probably have twice that amount on the IL. The NYY and NYM also have more.

    Lawlar is interesting, but he might not be an infielder.

    I doubt AZ ever considered a Marte/Mayer straight-up trade. I always assumed Tolle would need to be part of the package.

    I don't see AZ making that trade straight up. It would be more cost effective to cut Gurriel and eat the $11M. That said, It's a very good fit. Yoshi is surely better than what AZ has gotten from Gurriel. Maybe some money from the RS, plus 1-2 lottery tickets might get it done. And from the RS perspective, Gurriel is probably better than what we've seen (again, some future projection required). Very good against lefties. And just cheap enough that we can cut him if he tanks.
