  1. These are two super-small sample sizes, but both Bello and KC are performing well as of late.
  2. You don't need to have a SS strike fear into the other team. If we had IKF performing the way he had been, we wouldn't even be discussing SS.
  3. IMVHO, the best bet is to allow Bello to continue his bulk relief assignments. We need innings. Bello has been beyond awesome in relief with a 0.77 ERA and an 8/1 K/W. IF this continues, some team will make a real off in the off-season, assuming they can switch on the usual SP role.
  4. Every team has 'carrousels', and usually multiple carrousels. Sometimes it is best to deal with your demons as they escape.
  5. Four years of Witt for almost our entire minor league system?
  6. To this day, I don't have the foggiest idea what that means. I hope you don't think free agents are guaranteed to succeed. Nothing in life is guaranteed.
  7. Good news. He's not a skinny kid, so I'll be interested in actually seeing. But I definitely prefer leaving Durbin at 3B
  8. He has 320 innings at 2B and 840 at 3B. I assume that some of that was related to the Nats having Garcia at 2nd, and House struggling in his debut.
  9. I've been posting this since I invented the internet. GMs are not calling writers to tell them what's going on. I think about half the rumors are started by writers. Half are started by fans making suggestions that get built up on the net. The other 10% are mis-direction by GMs to their favored writers. If Breslow was 5 minutes away from landing soto, even the FO wouldn't know it.
  10. Or maybe he saw a good young 3B with lots of control. Durbin is basically what his balance sheet says he is.
  11. My perspective is just to make good, value-added trades. If we can get Ward or Adell, for little cost, go for it. OTOH, if we can get a major talent for Mayer, Witherspoon, and Eyanson, I'd go for that also. I don't really see a compelling reason to go all-in or all-out.
  12. My reputation at work was always to be quiet and analytical. If someone gets something wrong, it is a teaching moment. But sometimes I curse. Often enough, I am not even angry when I curse. But sometimes there needs to be a memorable moment. Something to get someone's attention. Something for them to remember.
  13. I kind of skipped over that. I do seem to recall Breslow giving up several top prospects for Crochet.
  14. Having seen some of the comments from the Angels fans in MLB-R, many are not fond of his fielding.
  15. A half game out of the playoffs so I doubt Pitt is selling.
  16. I assume that their valuation of Witt doesn't include the opt-outs.
  17. Like Moon said, we didn't have many good RH alternatives. They gave Eaton some innings, but that didn't really work. But imho, part of it was that we wanted to get Duran rolling, and sometimes that can only be done playing fulltime. Someone like Duran in particularly.
  18. I couldn't agree more. Meetings where everyone agrees, and are nice to each other, use to drive me crazy. I think camaraderie is great, and let's all grab a beer after the work. But if we spend two hours arguing about the best aspects of competing ideas, I leave the meeting pretty stoked.
  19. Fair enough, but if my guy has a lot better RF/9 than your guy, and the fielding % is the same, then I am comfortable with the assumption that your guy is not much a better fielder than my guy.
  20. 1-If you adding top prospects, then you are not paying FA money. 2-Since Mayer is the name being bandied about, is he still a top prospect? If he were still eligible, I doubt he'd be in the top-50. Let's say that Bregman, Alonso and were all appropriately priced. If the Mets gave us a $60M discount for including Mayer, it is the equivalent of selling Mayer for $60M. Would you not do that?
  21. It was just money, but more money than a discounted Lindor. Even if we traded for Lindor without a discount and without having to surrender Mayer, Lindor is still likely a better player than those three. Mayer would be there for the discount.
  22. He'll trade for Neto and Goodman, and some in here will complain that JH was too cheap to trade for Lindor & Langeliers.
  23. Reminds of pickup FB games as a kid. Most of the kids had helmets, but not all, and maybe half the kids had shoulder pads. One kid showed up with every possible piece of FB equipment, all new. I found out later that his father played with some of those great Fordham FB '7 blocks of granite' teams and took FB really seriously. His son, not so very much.
