  1. If Romy goes back to being a platoon 2B, then Springer becomes a platoon DH, and insurance for LF.
  2. Wait! You mean that Red isn't talking to Breslow every day about his plans?
  3. The team is 52-43 when Duran starts. He's played poorly but he hasn't crushed them. Story is 17-24. Some of this is fluke timing, but I'd rather be playing Duran than Story, imvho. That said, we need to plan for him not returning to form.
  4. No, but if we lose the opening game to LA, you'll see some sellers in here.
  5. No, but if they didn't trade for Adell or Springer to replace him, I wouldn't throw my laptop in pool.
  6. I vaguely remember telling someone in here, who I shall not name, that our one-run losses early in the year, were not indicative of our true level of talent. Something, something, something, Py W/L, yada yada yada. We are 5-1 in one-run games during our hot streak, and we were 6-12 in one-run games before then.
  7. I'd bet on him still being here. No one will want him and he has too much talent to DFA.
  8. Fred relishes being wrong as much as anyone I have ever known.
  9. #7 record in MLB, and #3 in the AL. Trying to explain baseball to anyone is a fool's errand.
  10. He's moved into 2nd, behind Contreras, in team OPS. If/when IKF returns, that's my SS platoon, and everyone can fight for 2B.
  11. Fred is a die-hard troll. The first lesson in trolling is to show up when the team is losing.
  12. I'm not sure that 4.0 RPG, instead of full-year 4.2, is enough for me to make a meaningful analysis. That's basically a 3B catching a line drive that would normally get by.
  13. I think that's a fair question. Particularly since it seems all our pitchers come up looking like pros. Do we have better pitching coaches than hitting coaches?
  14. That's one of the things I like most. When TO gives up, I think Springer goes cheaply. His skill is probably not highly prized (Philly maybe). Anytime a player is more important to us than to anyone else, they become a relative bargain. So if he hacks it up, we only lose a mediocre prospect (who immediately becomes the RSN favorite player) and a few $$$. Just in general, while I have no objection to big moves, I believe smaller, more strategic moves, will serve us better in the long-run.
  15. 1-I thought you said that signing Alonso was Plan A. If Alonso is no longer Plan A, which he obviously wasn't, and you are now agreeing with me when I said " They made a legit offer to Bregman, so you could make an argument there.", then thank you for finally agreeing with me. But you could've saved yourself about 20 posts by agreeing with my obvious logic the first time. 2-Now that you finally agree with me, so what? The Cubs outbid us. That happens to every team. Again, it is not the goal of every MLB to make life easy on us.
  16. Springer is ancient, but the recency factor comes into play. If he's been playing well for a month, there is a pretty good chance he can play good for another 2 months. Bleday is a lefty, and with 2+ years of control, he would cost a fair amount.
  17. If we get the pre-injury IKF, and if Monasterio keeps up even close to this pace, then that's my SS platoon. I wouldn't consider Story or an outsider.
  18. I'm not expecting much. Duran/Jones is just good enough, though I wouldn't object to adding Adell. I'm not crazy about switching catchers and disrupting a high-performing staff. I prefer Arias over paying big for a long-term SS. We have 8 RPs going good. Rotation innings could be a problem.
  19. Alvarez has 3.4 years left. The problem with Arias/Abrams is that, if you move Abrams off of SS, and you've traded Arias, then you have to pursue another SS.
  20. I'd say that was the same for everyone. I'd bet there were several teams asking about Mead and Early, and they dropped out when the bidding went too high. And it'll be the same if Neto gets traded. They'll be 6 teams in pursuit, and 5 teams will drop out.
  21. I'd say that's 100% correct. I'd bet that every GM has a huge board with almost every available name on it. And a number next to every name. And the numbers probably change every time the names change. If they had $150M/5 for Bregman, and Mil gives them a number on Durbin, maybe Bregman's number goes down to $135M/5. If you look at their 2027 board, I'm betting they have Story/Arias/Monasterio on top. But if Yordie becomes available, maybe the board looks more like Story/Monasterio/Arias. But mostly, I would argue that nobody was "plan A".
  22. No judgements here, but we've out-scored the Dodgers over the past 7, 14, and 28 days.
  23. I could go in that direction. There is a chance Duran comes back to normal, but there is an equal chance he disappears completely. If he disappears completely, then Jones becomes our primary LF. Or he platoons in LF with Yoshida, and someone else DH's. Both options are pretty weak. Springer takes those two options out of play. Even if Duran breaks out, Springer retains value at DH or giving Ceddanne and/or Abreu a day off. With Story and IKF returning, I think we can cobble together SS and 2B.
