  1. Sort of where I was going. Lindor was worth nearly 8fWAR last year. If the Mets paid $50mill of his remaining $170mill, he would have to be a 3 fWAR player on average to justify that trade. He is going to decline, but will he decline below 15 fWAR over the next 5 seasons? If he does, it’s most likely due to injuries keeoing him off the field. All that said , I’ve heard zero buzz about the Mets even thinking of trading him…
  2. He’s no Mookie, but he is in that tier of player. Obviously it’s unlikely the Mets even move him and they don’t have anyone being him that I know of. I’d take him as well as long as it’s not a crazy trade, but I don’t think it will ever come up…
  3. Does he meet your power requirements? I like Arraez as a hitter. There are rumors about the Giants extending him but until they do, he should be in play. But my post was largely limited to RHH bats, although I did mention Cronenworth in passing, opening that door…
  4. He has been worth over at fWAR over the past 4 seasons. It’s obviously a very unlikely trade, but if the Mets kicked in $10mill for each remaining year, it probably works out for Boston better than free agency will…
  5. Yes. Breslow pivoted again. But that also doesn’t mean he overvalued Duran…
  6. There are pros and cons to this approach. Some early extensions will be busts, as has happened to numerous other teams. But overall if one or two become successful, it probably winds up being cheaper overall than waiting. For example, if Anthony becomes a star and the Sox wait for that to sign him, that extension is likely more money than the current deals for Anthony, Bello and Campbell combined. Just like the Brewers, who have extended Chourio, Lara and Pratt, all before any of them made their MLB debut. Had they waited, Chourio alone would be looking at more money than those three got combined. And despite this success, right now, that organization is thinking “we f***ed up by not extending Misiorowski”. And sometimes the players take a bit. Colt Keith was extended before his debut in 2024. He spent the last two seasons as a platoon player wuth no real position. But this year he appears to have made strides and is becoming the hitter Detroit expected. Ceddanne Rafaela is also turning into a star a couple years post-extension…
  7. Acceptable. Also Cora with an F for just staying on the sidelines.
  8. Wasn’t that more because - and I don’t agree with Breslow here, I pull this trigger - Breslow wanted to keep Mayer at 3b and acquire a 2b that could play defense? If so, that’s not the same as overvaluing Duran…
  9. Yes he reluctantly went to DH and even took a bit to adjust to the role (or so I assume). But that doesn’t exclude him from helping out when players get hurt…
  10. I think that started the downfall. No one disputes he was among the best 20 hitters in the league regardless of your metric of choice, and the only dispute was where he ranked. But defensively he was the bottom of the barrel and all the other third basemen ranked near or below him were all moved to other positions (and went quietly). Devers had plenty of chances to prove himself. He just can’t play third basemen well. And he refused to accept/believe that…
  11. What exactly did Cora say that lead you to this conclusion?
  12. Bichette can opt out after this season, and I fully expect him to given his age and the complete dearth of actual hitters on the FA market tjis coming off-season….
  13. Colorado rarely if ever sells players anyway, regardless of how far out of it they are. If I had to rank players by likelihood of being added, France probably tops my list, largely because he might be available even if the Padres decide to buy at the deadline…
  14. How exactly did the FO handle it badly? Casas got hurt and they needed a new 1b for the next game. Not exactly a lot of prep time for that speech. It shouldn’t have taken more than “Triston is hurt bad and we don’t know when he’ll be back. You make the most sense to take his place.” And Devers was justified with “do they want me to play every position?” And “it’s [Breslow’s] job to go get someone”? What am I missing here?
  15. Lindor is a future Hall of Famer. Bichette might not be the best player in his own immediate family…
  16. And what were they asking for in a Duran trade that was so ridiculous to expect?
  17. Only Schmidt and Steer are from teams likely to be sellers. Some of others might, but theyre all too close to call. Pitt is already trying to buy from Boston, for example. Steer figures to be more likely available than Schmidt, who is in the midst of a breakout season in an aging Giants’ infield. Not many obvious sellers, and teams like the Royals, Athletics and Mets have no obvious players they’d deal. The Angels have Jo Adell and Jorge Soler they could part with. The Padres are probably on the buy/sell fence but will give you Jake Cronenworth in exchange for a simple “please”. If they sell, Ty France is likely available as well. KC has nothing. Colorado never seems to make deadline deals. There are no useful Mets’ bats to be had. From this list, Steer is my personal favorite. Now what Cincy wants for him is another matter. Ty France might be the next best…
  18. Has an unwillingness to take a loss on a trade really been their issue? Sale, Harrison, Tibbs for example. At some point, they shouldn’t just give players away either…
  19. Paez got selected this past offseason…
  20. But when the Sox trade players at other team’s valuations, they get hosed on the trade…
  21. Plus some $500-$750k in roster bonuses. I think Boston might have been more OK with paying that if he wasn’t issuing 6.1 BB/9IP…
