  1. Assuming/hoping the Sox stay off the MLB active roster for trades, except Duran and maybe Mayer. More likely the Eyanson/ Witherspoon/ Wehunt /Phillips crowd is where the trade bait comes from…
  2. Well, he’s a good third baseman. Lesser at 2b and his SS experience is inconsequential. The ceiling is there. He was a 6 fWAR player ladt year. But it’s rare, as in he has no other seasons above 2fWAR. (He should top that mark this year.) He’s not an awful choice or anything, but if the goal is “better offense” I think other options make more, especially since KC has no reason to move him. I prefer Ward, Jeffers and Peña, for example. And I think replacing Duran might be more important than replacing Seigler…
  3. Do you think Garcia is? Seigler’s might fall of, but the Sox do have 3 MI’s in the IL. Even if Garcia is an upgrade over Seigler, how much of one? I could see the Sox going for a leadoff-type 2b, but hopefully it’s someone like Matt Shaw (availability in question).
  4. Some slight changes, removing the guys going nowhere and Maikel Garcia, whose inclusion confuses me since he’s basically a league-average hitter that got propelled that high by one good season. His OPS this season to date is only slightly better than Durbin’s entire season, and well below Seigler’s…
  5. Well enough to be a premium prospect? Already done that. Hit enough to keep an MLB job? TBD. But I have some faith and I’m not alone. Arizona wanted him not long ago for Marte…
  6. Atlantic salmon, grilled. Wild rice. Green beans. Sam Adams Light. Next…
  7. Because they clearly knew, according to Speier, where his future was. And with Casas only in Portland, maybe he was not being counted on yet…
  8. Well, they traded him to a contender, who is clearly buying. But yeah, I already acknowledged they might just be offloading his oft-injured ass because he is so unreliable
  9. So you are stating that the reason Devers refused to play first base was because he watched Arroyo in right field and he watched Franchy at 1b? I’d be absolutely shocked if either of those two entered his mind. He didn’t say “I’m not going to first because I’ve never played it before and I’m uncomfortable.” But he did say “do they expect me to play every position?” That sounds more like a man just sick of being moved than a man worried about learning to play 1b. And if it was done for no reason, it becomes more understandable. But it wasn’t. And if the argument is “Breslow should have gotten someone better than Toro in the off-season, thats actually not realistic. Any backup 1b signing on to be a backup is going to be Toro-caliber or worse. The ceiling in that room is Rowdy Tellez. On the other hand, the Sox did have a serviceable DH in Yoshida coming back that needed a place to play. At 5’4” or whatever, he wasn’t an option for 1b, although he reportedly practiced it without whining. And getting both in made the best Sox lineup with their current roster. I believe Devers was upset at being removed from 3b, and didn’t care why he was asked to move again. He probably felt disrespected, and frustrated. And not because he watched Franchy struggle at 1b…
  10. Know what’s even worse? When youre dating that girl and you get to first base, and you want to go further, but there’s already another man on second…
  11. They should have started that strategy years ago….
  12. One could argue Cora didn’t either. He seemed to try to avoid these types of discussions with Devers all along…
  13. At best youre speculating. And that can work both ways. Maybe getting back on the field makes him a better hitter? You have used a similar argument for Duran. Romy is a role player that has never had a full time job and had only 20 games at first base in his career. And Cora clearly didn’t think he was a full time option because Cora had that option and didnt use it. Toro is the type of player you get on a minor league deal. What did you expect? Freddie Freeman to sit in Worcester waiting for an injury?
  14. You’ve done nothing but condone Devers’ behavior, including in the very response where you say you didn’t. First base has been a mess. And the Franchy Cordero/Abraham Toro types were never going to be anything but ineffective stopgaps (although Toro had his moments). If you’re saying you think Devers was justified, you’re saying you believe the right path was the only one left - Abraham Toro. It was like May 8th, so no one was trading the Sox a 1b. At that point in the season, only in-house players are an option. (Was Devers also justified in saying it was Breslow’s job to go get a 1b on May 8th?) The bottom line is Devers was asked to help his team due to injury and he refused. Many think this makes him a selfish player. Do you think he was acting as a team player or a selfish one?
  15. And saying it weakened two positions is misleading. Devers was still going to bat. The choice for the Sox lineup was Devers (at 1b) and Yoshida (at DH) or Devers (at DH) and Abraham Toro (at 1b). The first one is the better option..
  16. And you complained about that plsn non-stop, and with good reason - it didn’t work. So why are you repeatedly condoning that failed status quo?
  17. My point on this for a long time, just never expressed as easily…
  18. Was he singing about Jeremy Peña back then?
  19. In the standings, the Sox are barely better than a team already selling. Worth noting that dealing the perennially injured McCullers might not equate to a complete white flag. It might just be moving an annual headache to another team…
  20. If Sacra-Vegas is dealing Langeliers, it’s for cash reasons. Doubtful they want to take back a cumbersome contract. But part of me thinks they want to debut in Vegas with some stars and therefore prefer to keep Kurtz, Langeliers, Rooker and Butler on their squad…
  21. It’s not unreasonable. But what’s the lightest package you walk away from?
  22. McCullers to Milwaukee. Houston, 0.5 games behind Boston, appears to be selling…
  23. The plan was Casas. The crazy part is no one ever said his move to 1b would be permanent. Certainly no one knew how long Casas would be out….
  24. From 2022 https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/red-sox-matt-olson-comparable-rafael-devers-contract/ From that article: “The reason the Red Sox used this deal as a comp, according to Speier, is because the team views Devers as a first baseman or designated hitter in the long-term view.” And now you do know…
