    If they ever did Reds are willing to trade Lodolo for Duran, it should have already happened. I think I’d be questioning Breslow if he’s the reason that deal never happened. As for Singer, BTV suggests he is worth the about the same as Lars Nootbaar, Kerry Carpenter, Brenton Doyle, Isaac Collins or Josh Lowe in a trade. I do Carpenter or Doyle yesterday, and think long and hard about Lowe. Pass on Collins and Nootbaar. (Both are in the division anyway)…

    I think Duran for Lodolo makes more sense than Duran (plus) for Greene for Cincinnati, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sensible trade for them. But what really makes sense for the Reds is trading Brady Singer for an OF, and Duran makes no sense here for Boston.. I suppose even if Duran for Lodolo isnt optimal for the Reds, it’s probably the closest thing to a “Duran for a #2” starter trade that works for both sides…

    It’s hard to recall exactly, but I think DD traded away more BA Top 100 prospects than Breslow has to date. Granted, time in the role is not equal yet. And a few of the BA Top 100 prospects DD dealt (example: Javier Guerra) were total busts…

    And trading Tolle and Early doesnt constitute trading “all the Sox prospects.” He has absolutely gone down the road of trading prospects in the past. That’s not up for debate. At least not a good debate. He’s also had success doing it, so of course he would do it again. Not sure if he has that option with Philly, but he hadn’t needed it yet because he has financial free rein. So what he would do with a limited budget is guesswork at best. (Although given his history, trading prospects is not a bad guess.) But if they ever did put a halt on his spending, are you saying he still wouldn’t trade prospects to help his team? Would he stand pat? Or just quit and apply for a job with the Mets? I think he might have too much payroll commitment and recent success to go into Montreal Rebuilding Mode…

    It’s still 2025. Many, many deals happen in January. Not sure why so many fans have this mentality that if your starting lineup isn’t etched in stone before Thanksgiving, you’re not trying. This team did address major needs with Gray and Contreras replacing Toro and Buehler/Dobbins. Those are definite upgrades. With over 3 months to opening day, there is plenty of time. With 7 of the MLBTR top 10 free agents still unsigned, the the argument that the rest of MLB is miles ahead is just laughable…

    Can we agree on this: 1) Duran is a viable trade candidate 2) Duran is very unlikely to be dealt directly for a #2 starter, but he can be dealt in a 3 team deal that nets one, or for a prospect haul that can be flipped for one…

    But they also get more time to move him again if they fear he gets too pricey. Trade values are heavily influenced by two factors - years of control (and accompanying performance) and money owed to the player. One cheaper year can be worth a lot to a small market team. I never said you were wrong about less control. You were not. But money is also a factor. If you doubt me, pay attention to arbitration hearings where teams and players go to battle over differences under $500,000 sometimes…

    The Orioles have been acting like a team that never had prospects before. At first, they just held everyone and refused to make deals when they needed help. Now they’re dumping off the ones that didn’t pan out as expected for whatever they can get…

    That doesn’t mean you focus on 2026 alone. Part of being competitive every year does involve taking 2027, 2028, etc. into account. The Sox plan on fielding teams those years, too. If the Sox focus solely on 2026, what happens if a key injury derails the season?

    Good for Refsnyder, who spent the bulk of his career bouncing back and forth between AAA and MLB for multiple organizations before Boston became the first team to give him a guaranteed contract and established him as an actual Major Leaguer. And his current one year deal in Seattle will pay him more money than he made in his entire career to date…

    You’re thinking large market. That 9% can be a big deal to a team like Milwaukee or Cleveland….

    A #2 makes no sense for Duran from the opposing team’s viewpoint. Hetting Duran is about hetting more competitive now. Teams don’t get more competitive now by dealing their top starting pitchers. It only works if it’s someone like Freddy Peralta that has one season left before free agency and whose talent is going to price him out of his current team’s budget. But do you deal Duran for one season of a pitcher?

    That would be dumb., for a couple reasons 1) While it should be a fixable problem, Contreras habitually crouches too close to hitters. While this leads to too many catcher interference calls, the real issue is safety. A couple seasons ago, this poor habit lead to Contreras’ left arm being struck by the swing of JD Martínez, resulting in a broken arm. 2) Last year, St. Louis carried 3 catchers for the bulk of the season (Ivan Herrera, Pedro Pages, Yohel Pozo), all of whom were better defensively than Contreras. They did use Herrera at DH a lot, but they would be better off simply getting a better DH and letting Herrera get back behind the plate more often. Why Contreras was not a candidate for DH is another level of mystery here…

    No more Cardinals. That team went 78-84 last year and won’t get better by moving it East piece-by-piece. Houston has they’re not moving Paredes. Even if thats just posturing, it means they want too much. Vientos for Casas actually makes sense for both teams. A swap of two hitters with good seasons in the past, both roughly the same age (Vientos is 35 days older), both lousy fielders, both are redundant on their current team but plays a position the other’s team lost to free agency, Casas had a secretary named Vientos…

    Well, it’s not that they couldn’t trade Casas ladt year; it’s that they couldn’t trade him when they tried to attach Yoshida and his contract. That’s not the same thing. Sure he isn’t going to get you a “#2 starter” but Casas’ combination of demonstrated skills and very small financial commitment will appeal to some teams. If Michael Chavis and Nick Yorke can be dealt for MLB pitchers, certainly the Sox can get something for Casas. Whether or not it’s something useful remains to be seen…

    I prefer a Yoshida/Romy DH platoon. DH is the one position unimpacted defensively by platooning….
