    I’m assuming that any player who gets sent down to “work on something” usually gets put into some kind of regimen that actually works on it. Otherwise, why bother sending him down and just let him learn in MLB? Campbell was demoted pretty quickly and players on the team now have been allowed to play through much longer slumps without being demoted, so it’s not some automatic thing. The only one here assuming anything is you, and you clearly don’t know the answer I’m looking for and won’t stop answering anyway. Not the behavior of an intelligent man…

    Doubtful Breslow gets fired and if he does, the position likely stays internal with some Sam Kennedy underling, which is NOT better. Has Breslow really spent unwisely? The extension contracts to Campbell and Bello aren’t really that crazy. Not working out yet, but there’s time on both. Rafaela’s didn’t look great right away either. And the real worst contracts on the MLB roster (Story and Yoshida) were inherited. He did go too young with the lineup and ignored the bullpen…

    Well, not really fair comp. Dave D traded quite a few players that would have been considered successful after only 32PA or a handful of IP. Remember when Ty Buttrey silted into the closer role for the Angels? It was like “damnit!!” Interestingly, DD did deal away an All Star (Santiago Espinal) in a deadline deal and no one blinked. But Breslow is being held to some insane scrutiny where players performing the same or worse as they did in Boston are considered to have gotten away. Plus DD might have gotten some help from Sale forcing his way out of Chicago. Crochet was less immature about the situation there.

    I know his story. But Old Red calls all Sox prospects as suspects until, well, no idea. But prospects they trade away get no such designation. Matz is over and done, but the Sox were making a playoff push. If you want the Sox to add help on deadlines when the team is good, it helps to accept the Sox might occasionally deal away a good prospect. It happens.

    All I’m asking is what the Sox are doing with him, which is not excuses. It’s not even statements. Presumably it’s something. Sorry it offends you so. (Actually I’m not. I kind of hope it does.)

    You keep fighting this message as if you know the answer. So if we know what he’s doing - what’s his program? Is he just playing his game? Is he only supposed to swing at breaking pitches? If he faces 3 pitches, is he supposed to recognize them and tell the coach what he saw? These are all things coaches do actually do with young players. But are they doing anything like that with Campbell? And if any of them are happening, they will absolutely hurt his stats and make them meaningless…

    Also because that’s not a thing in baseball. Also do we know what they’re doing in Worcester? On one hand we have people saying the Sox are changing approaches, etc. and on the other people seem to think that AAA stats still matter. If Bello is working on secondary pitches and not throwing his fastball, does his ERA still matter? And what is Campbell doing? Working on recognizing /hitting breaking pitches? How does that happen? And do stats still matter at that point?

    It’s really not. But if your goal is to scream “cheap owner!!” I suppose it gives you the evidence you were going to keep looking for until the day you died. So I get the convenience. Of course then the whole idea that success is dependent on payroll is also flawed, and the even more comical fan cure about not attending games until they pay what you think they should is just an absolute fast track to destroying the team. Teams should spend. (I fully support the cap/floor model.) When it’s worth it. Betts? Definitely! Soto? Would have been worth it! Alonso? Likely just dead money in 2 to 3 years. Using long term free agency contracts to solve short term problems is a terrible idea that has burned the Sox many times already…

    Unless we’re talking about Durbin, Mayer, etc. Not that long ago, David Hamilton was doing “so much better” in Milwaukee than he was in Boston and thats because of Boston’s poorly run organization. (Except Hamilton wasn’t doing any better and is now actually doing worse.). Last week it was Dustin May doing better. Dumb deal, but also not really true. Now Blaze Jordan? Of all the Sox prospects dealt away, he’s not in my top 5 that I’d want back…

    If he has more RBI than it’s extremely likely it’s because he comes up with more runners on base in Baltimore than he does in Boston. If so, who cares? It’s irrelevant to how he’d do here…

    I don’t consider trading Suarez because he has 4 years left, and he is doing well. But I can be bought…

    Alonso also doesn’t strike me as a player to age well. Granted, only a 5 year deal. But to me he’s not a guy you go all in for. The entire league agreed with me last year on this. And “best available” is a stupid reason to make a multiyear commitment. Plus as much as people say “but you could get Contreras AND Alonso,” there was no chance of that happenining. Once they got one, the other was off the table. Maybe trading Duran changes this, but they couldn’t find anyone interested enough to trade him…

    But he doesn’t have more and thats “here and now.” Like I said earlier, apparently that only matters for Sox hitters. Not to mention as you have been shown, runners on base matter. Contreras is driving in a higher percentage of baserunners than Alonso already, but for some reason you think that changes when fewer runners are on base. Explain…

    And the Cubs and Bewers ranked below Boston and do rather well. It’s really not a good metric. Trading an OF would have been fine, but I think interest in Duran (preferred choice) was tepid at best. Hopefully the goal want to just unload an OF for anything to accommodate Alonso…

    It’s a useless metric. Teams like Miami and Tampa with virtually no revenue can spend a higher percentage of their revenue rather easily, but it doesn’t correspond to success. Also that rank is from 2025. 23rd in revenue or not, they won 89 games and made the postseason. Dumping Masa would have done nothing. He wasn’t even an opening day starter. Signing Alonso means benching one of Anthony, Duran, or Abreu. Which one gets benched? (Cora being a huge proponent of Rafaela in CF meant it wasn’t going to be him.)

    And plenty of us said Gray was easily a number two. No accolades there? Honestly Fred just wanted the team to spend more money. That was his primary gripe, supported by his frequent repetition of the Sox ranking on percentage of revenue spent on payroll, a fairly useless metric. Repeated questions about who the Sox would bench if they signed Alonso and traded for Contreras went unanswered. Especially if you play by the April rules and don’t know Roman Anthony gets injured…

    Yes we do. But when did the Sox start talking to St. Louis vs Alonso? Were these the first two parties they engaged? Did you know trades can take longer to work out than free agency because players like Contreras have existing contracts that need to be reviewed? How long does that take? In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the answer to all of these questions for most of us is “I don’t know.” Which is why youre the only one claiming who was first choice and who was settled for. It’s not because youre more informed. Same info as the rest of us; we just don’t make the assumptions you make…

    We really don’t know who their first choice was. Maybe they turned to Alonso after the original talks with St. Louis went sour. Maybe (re: most likely) neither was their first choice and some talks with someone else never progressed far enough.. At any rate, none of this matters. They have Contreras. I mean, hopefully you don’t consider your wife a “settle” because she wasn’t the first woman you dated…
