  1. But he already sign Story the year before. Kike at SS was because of a Story injury. The problem wasn’t that the Sox didn’t stockpile 9 figure contracts at SS; the problem was the replacement once Story went down was an oft-injured player who spent the entire season injured and never suited up for a single game…
  2. Chang had a .564 OPS with Boston. That’s better than Story, Durbin, Mayer and Narvaez…
  3. I don’t recall a lot of teams being interested in Duran. San Diego was, but their farm is barren at this point…
  4. The Sox didn’t get IKF instead of Alonso; they got William Contreras instead of Alonso. And it’s looking like the right move.
  5. Actually they were a much better team when they focused on simpler metrics. Just get back to OBP…
  6. Correct. After 84 PA this year, Anthony has a .692 OPS. After 81 PA last year, Anthony had a .637 OPS. And from then forward last year, Anthony had a .941 OPS…
  7. The Sox don’t have the worst lineup in MLB. Not even close. But theyre getting outscored by weaker lineups like Minnesota and St. Louis. My theory is Cora is trying to get Breslow fired. It does explain why Cora is suddenly so stupid…
  8. Andruw Monasterio batting second? Cora has clearly forgotten all the metrics that got him hired in the first place…
  9. That means so much coming from a guy who emptied his bench to make a lineup to face a two time Cy Young winne
  10. Minnesota is 11-10 and less than a year ago, dealt away nearly a dozen players, including the bulk of an outstanding bullpen, and in return so far have received Mick Abel, Taj Bradley, and James Outman. Well, they did fortify their lineup by splurging on Victor Caratini and Josh Bell. Yay…
  11. The Sox younger players are not the problem? Anthony, Durbin and Mayer are all off to bad starts. In Snthony’s case, his numbers are league average. Narvaez is 27 but only on his second year. He’s been awful. Some vets like Duran, who has been terrible and probably should be benched. And Story in the field has been bad. By the way, saying players are in their prime answers nothing. It’s not etched in stone for every player, and plenty of 27yo have bad seasons. Struggling veterans happens every year. But the Sox have 4 starters added to the mix that have two years or less and are flat out not hitting. That’s a big chunk of their lineup. The bright side is most of the younger guys will get better. How much better is TBD. All off-season, you kept listing who the Sox needed to replace. Well, outside of Durbin and Contreras, they went internal with these guys. My question is - do these guys get a longer leash than Campbell?
  12. So your point? Trying to counter my point that the Sox are struggling because the bulk of their team is younger, struggling players? “The Pirates have young players and they’re scoring, so that cannot be it!” type message? Hmmm.. how to counter this utter nonsense? I have two options. 1. A reminder that the Pirates have completely different young players who are not struggling. Maybe I could even ask for a post with side-by-side numbers? 2. Counter with equivalent nonsense. Such as, by this logic, the Sox issues are definitely not related to payroll, since the Mets have spent a fortune and they are horrible. Ditto the Blue Jays and the Giants. Also, this negates the Sox need for a superstar bar, since the Mets have the best one and it’s already established that they suck. You choose…
  13. Only 4 (former Sox/current DBacks GM Mike Hazen, Guardian’s President Chris Antonetti, Brewers’ GM Matt Arnold, Rays’ executive Peter Bendix) declined. In the case of Bendix, he was interviewing for and eventually got the position of POBO with the Marlins…
  14. Well, you did mention Bradley, who was only an LCS MVP. And frankly, it’s unfair to hold Stanley and Schiraldi’s bad inning against Barrett. Especially since Marty was instrumental in having that 2 run lead in the first place. Also, was Mike Lowell’s home run really “pivotal”? It put the Sox up 3-0 in the seventh inning in a series they lead 3 games to none. They don’t necessarily lose the game without it, and extremely doubtful they lose the series…
  15. I never specified a catcher by name, but the free agent options peaked at JT Realmuto, whose catching days might be numbered…
  16. 1986 ALCS MVP. You probably remember him best for being on base when Dave Henderson homered off Donnie Moore…
  17. Not just young, I mentioned young and inexperienced with age and service time. You don’t think counting on the youth was an issue? Exactly how many posts with bad Sox stats that specifically name Durbin, Anthony, Mayer, and Narvaez are you going to continue to make? Those 4 players make up 44% of the starting lineup. I think most of these players will hit better. The season is still only 20 games old. I think that Breslow ignored the bullpen and the catcher situation are going to be bigger factors. For all these “we didn’t add a superstar bat” posts, what superstar bat is carrying the lineups at or near the top of MLB in scoring, like the Twins, Nationals (who knew they are tied for the MLB lead in runs?), Pirates and Brewers? Hey, who knew the Pirates have scored more runs than the Yankees?
  18. Really? So the Sox made a questionable choice with Contreras (.878 OPS) while avoiding Bregman (.614), Alonso (.670) and Marte (.680)? There are two clear issues with this team. 1) Cora is not a good manager. And more important, 2) they are relying on far too many unpredictable young players. With Rafaela, Anthony, Durbin, Narvaez, Mayer, Bello, Early, and Abreu all being 27 and under and with less than 3 years of service time. Durbin, Mayer and Anthony have never been starters for a full season before. I think a lot of fans wanted the Sox to go all in because they had a window with Crochet, but don’t forget Crochet at 27 is in the same age group…
  19. Or only watch highlights…
  20. The guy hasn’t faced hitters since 2024 and you expect him to step in and get immediate results?
  21. What are the chances Bello gives up negative runs today? I could handle a 0-(-1) game…
  22. I do think re-arranging thr order further is a good idea. Also Yoshida has a .474 OBP, nearly double Duran’s .254. Maybe more frequent plate appearances here?
