    But for the last two weeks, they’ve been a “good enough” offense. And as I said, it’s depleted with players like Seigler and Henr in there regularly. And those Worcester/bench bats in there are the only reason yesterday’s game wasn’t a white flag for me. Because of your best lineup gets shutdown by Anthony Kay, that’s only because your best lineup sucks…

    Well the Sox are on Small Sample Fire lately with a lineup featuring players like Cheng and Seigler who were not on the bench to start the year but rather were in Worcester. Add in Yoshida, a bench bat on the opening day roster, and thr Sox are better despite 33% of their opening day lineup being replaced, 44% on days Wong starts..

    Some like Ian Browne snd Tim Britton were critical of the Sox offense, primarily due to the absence of a “35 home run hitter”. Ian Browne saud “Where will the power come from?” verbatim. (I might argue not one analyst saw “giant” red flags or had the Sox offense as bottom 5. So if you can name someone who did it’s a big help.) But I think more analysts (Jim Bowden, Chad Finn, even Lou Merloni) liked this approach and figured this team to use better athleticism to their advantage on offense and defense. Some figured them to be a top ten offense like they were post-Devers. Those who keep adding “we said we need two bats” like to ignore the analysts who disagreed with them. (To be fair, we all ignore the analysts we disagree with.) But that need in January, February wasn’t as obvious then as it is now, with Durbin lately proving he is a capable bat himself…

    Lott was crazy, so I see how that urban legend started. But obviously, biting off an injured pinky would create an even graver hand injury and probably significant blood loss. Lott did once have an injured pinky amputated (by a doctor) rather than have reconstructive surgery that carried a longer recovery time…

    I’m willing to bet the other player wasn’t Duran, who is expensive (by Pittsburgh standards) and awful (by any standard). Marcelo Mayer maked more sense. He’s cheap and can fill in at SS with Konnor Griffin out…

    Heart says contenders and to grab a couple pieces. But head says cash on several players and gear up for 2027. The very young Sox rotation could be especially fragile and once the deadline passes, it gets harder to reload for any injuries…

    Gotta hand something to Tracy. He used a starting lineup featuring Romy Gonzalez, Andruw Monasterio, Nate Eaton, Connor Wong, Brett Harris and Patrick Sandoval, who was starting his first game in nearly two years. All that against a team leading their division. And got a win…

    His durability is a major question mark. Just because Boston has no use for him after this year doesnt mean he’s tradable. Sometimes you just can’t sell your garbage, and it’s people like you that think you can that went out and created the garage sale…

    I don’t think trading Sandoval is even possible and it’s probably not worth it. What team is leaping at the 20IP (at most) he’ll have at the deadline? I have no idea if the Sox deal Bello, but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t even considered…

    Absolutely not. The Sox are going to need Sandoval. If the Sox do go into sell mode, they likely dump Gray, and potentially Bello. And at some point will probably shut down Tolle and Bennett (and Early if he ever gets activated). The Sox are going to need an arm (or more?) to handle the IP at that point. And helping preserve the arms of Tolle, Early and Bennett is far more useful than anything Sandoval will brings back in a trade…

    I do agree that Mayer could have gone back to AAA. It’s not like he got promoted for dominating there (although he wasn’t exactly a bust either). But if the Sox were to fill that middle infield spot, it s any going to be with a Schwarber or Alonso. In fact, pribably not a free agent at all…
