    Cora repeatedly backed out of that squabble. Probably no coincidence that 1) Cora wanted Bregman for 2b and not 3b despite Bregman being the reigning Gold Glove at 3b, and then 2) Cora refused to be the one to tell Devers he was moving to 1b (despite that technically being Cora’s job). Breslow clearly isn’t doing much right this year, but the fact that Cora TWICE stepped out of the way when it came to changing positions of MLB’s worst defensive third baseman might say a lot about Devers himself…

    The Sox take chances on players like those two all the time. And like every team, the bulk of those chances do not pan out. The Sox do have the occasional late round success story, like Connelly Early (5th round) and Hunter Dobbins (8th round) for example.. And everybody loved Mayer - he was a surprise to fall to 4. But he was the top-rated talent in the draft that year by all the third parties. Of course, “top-rated” talent hasn’t always been worked out for Boston. See Groome, Jason…

    And no one is selling. I think the closer market could be surprisingly active tjis deadline, with several top contenders having serious question marks there. Cubs, Cards, Phillies, White Sox, Pirates, Reds, Brewers, Diamondbacks and Blue Jays all looking for possibles solutions/upgrades. Maybe a few others…

    Pass on Conrad, who got injured in college and injured in his first pro season. Back injuries on players 22 and under should be a red flag. Ok with Wiggins and INF Pedro Ramirez. Suggested 1b/3b Jonathon Long earlier, but apparently a lot of scouts are down on him. Ditto 2b/3b James Triantos, Both of those last two have unconventional swings just begging for the Sox to ruin them. So pass now…

    Complete BS. They’re both important. The whole “this one team pitching/defense team can’t win so therefore no pitching defense team can” is just false. Toronto last year proves its possible. 4 teams in MLB are in the top 5 in runs scored and fewest runs allowed - NYY, LAD, MIL and ATL. Clearly the best teams. If we look at the 5 top scoring teams not counting these 4 (WSN, PIT, MIN, BAL, CHC), theyre combined record is 197-202. If we look at the top 5 run preventers (SD, CLE, SEA, DET, TEX) not counting these 4 (and Boston, since we want outside info), their combined record is 195-203. Nearly identical. Leaving in Boston and taking out Texas, the run preventers are 189-297. Only slightly worse. Pitching and defense make for less exciting televised baseball, but are just as critical for winning as hitting. But the teams excelling this year are excelling at both. And teams that excel at one tend to be mediocre…

    It’s not. FWAR for catcher doesn’t consider the DH at bats they give to Hicks and Ramirez. Miami’s interest in Gasper, who really isn’t a catcher anyway, would probably be related to the fact that he can somewhat hit and does so for very little money. Would they trade for him? Probably not. At least not for anything anyone cares to get back. But would they put him on an opening day roster? They’ve done worse…

    His two worst contracts were inherited from Bloom. His biggest disappointment has been in the organization since 2018. The biggest black marks against him right now are the extensions to Bello and Campbell. But giving those types of extensions can be a numbers game with some patience. He does have some questionable snd bad trades under his belt, but not sure how much those factor into his performance review. I also think he is too impatient with younger players and ignored the bullpen after a good season. But my vote does not count…

    No I’m asking why would Breslow make sure to take on all the responsibilities and blame for a sinking ship. Basically what makes you think Tracy was hired solely as a power move by Breslow? The Sox have invested in several young players and sen them struggle initially. How does Breslow seizing power ameliorate the situation as opposed to how it exposes him to risk and blame? Now if he hired Tracy to provide some comfort snd familiarity to the young players, he can buy himself some time with that story. But if his goal was self-preservation, shouldn’t he have hired an experienced MLB manager to push this team to the next level? It probably/possibly gives him a better chance at success or at minimum a solid scapegoat. Really, if he wanted self-preservation, why not keep Cora?

    From what I saw, Devers brought his share of venom. Blame isn’t always one-sided. And what’s the non-Devers evidence San Francisco is toxic?

    Oooh conspiracy theories!! Folks always make the power and ego arguments when they don’t like the CBO. Like there can never be a rational reason for anything and it’s all about self-promotion. Simple question - the Sox are floundering and have been all year. Why would anyone want their name and their name alone attached to that?

    I have my doubts either outfielder is available for a rental player. The ceiling is probably Jackson Ferriss or Zach Root. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Tibbs was back on the table…
