  1. I named Bello in that trade. He is a pitcher. And I am not certain of his involvement, but I believe Diamondbacks CBO Mike Hazen was the Sox GM when Bello was originally signed.
  2. Replying to myself here. I just looked at the Reasonably Reliable Roster Resource, and that trade does make a ton of sense for AZ on one level. RR lists their starting LF as infielder Blaze Alexander. Duran gives them an actual LF and allows them to shift Alexander back to 3b where he played last year, and SS Jordan Lawlor (whom RR has starting at 3b) could shift to 2b. So they replace Marte with a similarly productive and cheaper Duran very smoothly. And since their projected roster include Mike Soroka, who is among those whose position on his Topps baseball card reads “IL”, Bello is an instantaneous rotation upgrade…
  3. Duran and Bello works on BTV. But does it work for Hazen? (Wasn’t he involved with recruiting both for Boston?)
  4. But that it’s not all does prove my point….
  5. Sure he does. But then who doesn’t look more athletic than Kyle Schwarber?
  6. Mayer has 136 career plate appearances. Even if he OPSd 1.000 in them it’s still a small sample and a tad early to say he “likely” is the next anyone. But that he has shown good defensive skills is at least something…
  7. Suarez is less than 2 years older than Schwarber and will very likely sign a deal at least two years shorter. So if you were already ok with Schwarber.,.
  8. I think it doesn’t happen because I do not believe KC to be that stupid. Third team? Maybe…
  9. We do not, but we do have a surplus of outfielders and a shortage of infielders. We need a team with their surpluses and dearths reversed…
  10. That was my point. While everyone who wants him to sell seems to think that’s the path to a higher payroll, it’s only one possibility, and possibly not even the most likely one. I assume everyone - yes, everyone as in 100%. - that wants Henry to sell believes a new owner will have looser purse strings. I don’t believe anyone wants Henry gone because they believe the new owner will be cheaper…
  11. So why do so many want Henry to sell the team? And how do they think the new owner will be different?
  12. Gee, they don’t want their poor-fielding corner outfielder with a .738 OPS who’s only owed $49 mill over the next two seasons. Teams will undoubtedly be lining up…
  13. Well, don’t forget (or perhaps review) what the original statement said. It wasn’t 100% agreement that the Sox need new ownership; it was 100% agreement that the new owner would be better. Fairly safe because I doubt very many calling for Henry’s departure are doing so because they want the new owner to be worse…
  14. Every team signs free agents that don’t work out. The Dodgers are clearly already worried about Tanner Scott, for example. And Michael Conforto was hardly a raging success for them. But they get remembered for the successes…
  15. Do not confuse my acknowledgement with acceptance…
  16. Sure it’s an exploitation of the passions of the fanbase. But I doubt Henry is going to call himself out for it and fire himself. And don’t kid yourself about Mayo’s hiring being anything more than a temporary appeasement to questionable NFL hiring practices regarding head coaches. “Oh gee, the guy with zero NFL head coaching experience couldn’t turn around a 4-13 team in one season? Well, thats certainly not acceptable.”
  17. It sounds like KC is far more interested in acquiring Duran than they are in trading Ragans. I don’t see a deal happening here…
  18. Getting Bubic should definitely be more about unloading. He’s had one good season and didn’t even last all the way though it, and now has only one season left until free agency…
  19. Ragans really doesn’t make sense for KC to give up. But the rest of their rotation is also a bit questionable or lacking control…
  20. Well, inept might be strong. I mean, Devers shouldn’t have been a bad contract they needed to move, at least not if you only consider his baseball talents. But also, I suppose that, while unlikely, a new ownership might give me ethical pause. I can’t imagine being excited and would most certainly have a moral dilemma cheering for the Sox if they were purchased by the Sinoloa Drug Cartel. But I can dial that back until it becomes closer to reality…
  21. I’m not thrilled with it, but I’m not as unrealistic as you are. But it’s December. Not even late December. Plenty of time left and just because two names you liked are off the board doesn’t mean it is over already. Especially since the Sox might have felt differently about them.
  22. Merrill Kelly? Sonny Gray d didnt go over; but Merrill Kelly is the answer? There are plenty of names left. Many folks gravitated to the biggest ones not named Tucker and thought that list was realistic and attainable, and ignored it created this hodgepodge of stat increases that didn’t necessarily improve the team. I thought Alonso made sense but not because he was good, but rather because he was more likely to come cheaper than Bregman. Not the best baseball reason, but folks are apparently thinking “we need right-handed power” and because Alonso regularly hits 35-40, he obviously fits and more so than Bregman and Marte. Sure he hits home runs, but so does Eugenio Suarez. And Ketel Marte has a better SLG from the right side…
  23. Very simple question - if you can be the top 3 or 4 in revenue while being 10-12 in payroll, what exactly is the incentive to change?
  24. But if it works, is it a big deal? It seems like there is a contingency of folks more obsessed with Henry spending than Henry financing a better team…
  25. The truly sad part is the 100% agreement than any new owner will be better, despite 20-25 current owners that spend less every year, and a league rampant with mercurial owners that shoot payroll through the roof one year, only to dial it back significantly the next. A new owner might not be the cure you all want; statistically a new owner is more likely to take everything you don’t like about Henry to an even greater extreme…
