  1. Let's bury these bums even deeper! Go Sox!!!
  2. That's a good way to put it.
  3. He will definitely come back down to earth, but he should still be a decent hitting catcher - decent enough to hold a starting position.
  4. It's possible. There is *some* reason why he has not played.
  5. I was actually thinking of you when I posted that.
  6. 1. I do not agree that Moncada, Young, or Swihart should be the DH next year, but even if one of them were, that does not equate to standing pat if other areas of the team are improved. 2. That's fine that you did not suggest getting the best FA available. That was my point though. We can improve the team without signing an expensive big bat to replace Papi. 3. Papi cannot be replaced, even if we signed Encarnacion. Would it be okay if perhaps the offense is still the best offense in the league next year but only outscores the rest of the league by 50 runs instead of 100? Would it be okay if perhaps the offense is only the 2nd best offense in the league next year but our BP improved to #1? 4. As I said, I don't think the Sox will stand pat. Our definitions of "standing pat" seem to be different.
  7. I do not underestimate the value of a happy Hanley versus an unhappy Hanley. I fully agree that if Hanely's offense will suffer as a DH, then he should stay at first base. Hence, my mention of his possible need to be fully engaged in the game. I am not at all unhappy with Hanley's defense at first base, but he is slightly below average to average defensively. If Hanley is okay with DHing, then Swihart or Shaw could provide a defensive upgrade while keeping the same bats in the line up. Either way, we have a lot of options without having to grossly overpay for an aging free agent.
  8. In a crunch, I can understand the need to use one of them as a DH if there is no better option. But that is far different than penciling in one them to be our regular DH at the start of the season, which is what I thought you were saying. IMO, neither one of them should be on our Opening Day roster as the DH. I have been in agreement with a few others here for a while that Swihart should be getting reps at 1B and/or 3B.
  9. Yeah, as I said, the Os and the Rays flip flop for 2nd place on the most hated list.
  10. It is rather curious that we haven't seen Vazquez or heard anything about why he's not playing. It's surprising how quickly he seems to have fallen out of favor with the FO and with many fans. Leon, I'm sure, is a big part of the reason for that. Until this current speculation about him overruling Farrell's call, I had not heard anything negative about Vaz' attitude or work ethic. Not sure what's going on, but I would not be so quick to give up on him.
  11. You are right. It's really not even close.
  12. I read this morning that Papi will be joining the team in spring training next year as an adviser. He may take a step back for a little while after that, but I can't see him staying away too long. He will be with the team in some capacity.
  13. I want Papi to go out on top. Whether we win it all this year or not, he will be going out on top, IMO. He deserves that.
  14. Haha. Good stuff! What an appropriate name for a Great White.
  15. I don't think that it's that Farrell has a better feel for the game all of a sudden. Farrell can manage with a sense of urgency now because it's September. If he managed the same way back in April - July, we might have won a few more games then, but I think the price of getting those added wins then would be biting us now.
  16. Koji has been a big boost. His injury has been a blessing in disguise. The rest of the pen gets credit as well. In the month of September, they have a 0.89 ERA (1st in baseball), 10.91 K/9 (2nd), .192 BAA (4th), and 1.03 WHIP (4th). Quite a turnaround from last month.
  17. Playoff bound party bus geared up and ready to go! All Aboard!
  18. Not sure how sincere you are, but if you are being sincere, you are much more gracious in losing than I could ever be.
  19. Thank you.
  20. It's a baseball discussion board. All this talk about how Henry should spend his money even though we don't know what he will do is what we do.
  21. I have no idea what kind of contract he will get, but I'm guessing that it will be larger than what any team should be willing to give him. You and I will have to disagree on Henry's willingness to pay whatever it takes. He will not make a regular habit of doing that.
  22. I don't think anyone suggested that they will stand pat. I just don't think they need to go out and buy the best FA available in an attempt to replace Papi. Our offense will be fine. There many other ways that the FO can somewhat offset the loss of Papi without signing Encarnacion.
  23. Agreed. IMO, the most likely candidate for DH right now is Hanley. Maybe he is a player who needs to be more 'engaged' in the game, but so far his numbers as a DH are very good. Regardless of whether it's Hanley or not, I can't see either Moncada or Swihart being our DH next year.
  24. "Since Steven Wright got hurt/they lost final game of West Coast trip to the Dodgers, Red Sox are 27-14 and have gained 7.5 games in the East"
  25. There is and there can only be one Sit and Spit.
