  1. I think our record in Sunday games is not good, though I admit that is just my perception and I have not bothered to verify.
  2. Hope so. The division is tight enough as is without allowing all the other teams to gain another game on us.
  3. I'm excited about Moncada, but he doesn't appear to be ready, either skills-wise or mentally. No one should give up on him, but nor should anyone pencil him in as our starting 3B next year. I think he will need at least a 1/2 season, very possibly longer.
  4. A big part of the appeal of picking up these options is that each option is only for ONE year. It's common practice for GMs to pay more money for fewer years. $13 mil a year for a solid starter is a decent deal in a multi year deal. For one year, it becomes that much better. A team can almost always absorb a one year contract if the player busts.
  5. Buchholz will have his work cut out for him pitching in the rubber game against Sanchez. So will our offense.
  6. Not everyone can pull off the long hair look. But I agree about Beni and Brock. Beni's hair is awesome! While we're at it, Brock needs to lose the 'stache.
  7. Technically, it hasn't been out of whack for 4 years. No "predictor" in baseball is going to be extremely accurate. We all know that. Pythagorean W-L does give a better indicator of remaining season performance than actual record, however. At least until late August/September. My point here is that the Yankees are 'lucky' to have as many wins as they have. The ideas that 'a good team will find a way to win the close games' or 'a good team can regularly beat its Pythagorean W-L' or 'a good manager can regularly lead his team to beat its Pythagorean W-L' are all false notions. Beating Pythagoras is not a repeatable skill. It is luck or randomness.
  8. Nope, can't blame the pitching. ERod looked a little shaky early, but he limited the damage, then went on to pitch a pretty good game. The BP did its job. The offense did not. Tomorrow's game is not going to be any easier.
  9. Ben and I are ecstatic with the way Porcello is pitching. It was nice to have a non nail biting win last night. The Sox control their own destiny. They need to keep taking care of business, and let the other teams dog it out for the wildcard spots.
  10. The Jays are not looking like a playoff team right now. The Sox need to take advantage of the Jays funk. WIN, WIN, WIN!!!
  11. I love it when we start any series off with a win, especially when we're on the road. Great win for the good guys! Woohoo!
  12. Porcello has gotten a lot of run support, which if scored early, would definitely take some pressure off of him. However, it's not like Porcello is giving up 6 or 7 runs a game and winning his games 8-7. I don't think Wins are a good measure of a pitcher's performance, but in Porcello's case, he has earned most of those wins.
  13. Yes, there is some correlation to bullpen strength, but if I recall correctly, it wasn't a very strong one.
  14. It's exciting, but I'd much rather have a nice 6 game lead. I'll be a nervous wreck over the next 3 weeks! LOL
  15. Not true either.
  16. No, he really can't. Beating one's Pythagorean W-L is not a sustainable skill. It's another one of those fluky random things.
  17. We need to start this series off on the right foot with a win tonight. Go Sox!!!
  18. Ben should have been given some more time to see his long term vision come to fruition.
  19. Thank you for your posts on the topic. Just add my name to your posts from now on, please. Except in the matter of robot umps.
  20. ^^This. I'd rather keep Buchholz for the $13 mil.
  21. I don't think they'll win the division, but sadly, I do think they'll take one of the wildcard spots.
  22. What I loved about Koji as a closer was that he didn't mess around. There was almost never any drama in the 9th inning, unlike there is with Kimbrel. Kimbrel is frustrating to watch sometimes. That said, in closing situations, he has mostly gotten the job done. It isn't always pretty, but he gets it done. For that reason, I can't see Farrell pulling him out of that role, unless he really loses it.
  23. Agreed. That said, I hope Koji pitches well enough to make Farrell at least roll that idea through his head.
  24. Price has been pitching like the Price we all know and used to hate. No Price controversy is a wonderful thing.
  25. When you said they'd pick up his option, Buchholz was pitching terribly and had been banished to the pen. Not that I ever said you were being foolish, but to say at that time that picking up the option was a no brainer was a bit of a stretch, unlike last year. It's still a stretch to say the decision this year is a no brainer.
