  1. Remember when Fangraphs predicted 92 wins for the Sox and everyone said they were whack?
  2. I think Moncada will contribute in a big way, I just don't think it will be at the beginning of the season. I don't think he's quite ready. I can see him coming up near the trade deadline next year like Beni did this year.
  3. LOL You are terrible. And yet, I like you.
  4. I've also seen quite a few threads started by first time visitors asking about the best places to stay or eat when they're in town, or about things that are must see or must do, or about parking/transportation to Fenway, etc. This might be a good place to share that information as well.
  5. LOL As you said, great minds.... But, am I really trolling????
  6. LOL He's so doggone cute!
  7. This is the type of post that makes my heart go aflutter.
  8. It's too bad Pablo is on the DL.
  9. The whole team is giving me major warm and fuzzy feelings right now.
  10. Any team that is 36-10, now 36-11, in one run games is not as good as they look in the W-L column. My man Pythagoras says that they are a 77-76 team, roughly .500. They are an incredible 13 games over that mark.
  11. Makes a lot of sense.
  12. I agree Moon. We'll all miss Papi, and like I said, no one can replace him, not just because of his numbers, but because of the icon that he is. But that does not mean it's going to be all doom and gloom for the Sox next year. Personally, I think if the team did stand pat except for adding a couple more relievers, we'd be in very good shape. Not that I'm suggesting that is what the FO should do, but I don't think they have a great deal of work to do this offseason. Either way, I really like the outlook for this team for the next several years.
  13. Now that Clay has had a turnaround, I'd have to agree. Picking up the option is once again becoming a no brainer.
  14. Good stuff here. I know I've mentioned it before, but I have to give some credit to Bannister being in the dugout as well. Not just for Clay, but for the pitching staff as a whole turning it around. Entering tonight, Red Sox pitchers had a 3.53 ERA and 1.182 WHIP since Brian Bannister joined the coaching staff on July 5. Prior to that, they had a collective 4.48 ERA and 1.349 WHIP. Scott Lauber, ESPN Staff Writer Coincidence? I think not.
  15. Forget about the "I'd be happy with taking 3 out of 4 from the Os" nonsense. I want a SWEEP! SFF for the WIN! Go Sox!!!
  16. To Farrell's credit, he has been working in days off for guys in the midst of this winning streak. Your point is taken though. Let's clinch the division and give our guys some much needed rest. While HFA would be nice, it's not all that it's cracked up to be.
  17. Perhaps, but Clay deserves a lot of credit for limiting the damage in the 2nd inning. He escaped a bases loaded jam with only giving up one run on a sac fly. This was after Leon made a mental flub by throwing to 2nd base on a sac bunt rather than getting the sure out at first, then the umpire squeezing Clay on a couple of pitches that should have been strikes, but resulted in a walk to load the bases. This is the type of thing that might have led to a full out implosion, but Clay got out of it with minimal damage.
  18. Scott Lauber ‏@ScottLauber 6h6 hours ago Clay Buchholz: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K. 3.43 ERA in his last seven starts. Just when I think I'm finally ready to give up on Clay for good, he reels me back in. He can be so maddening, but he was awesome last night.
  19. That was a tougher play than the ESPN announcers gave them credit for. Yes, I chose ESPN over the Os feed because as bad as the ESPN announcers were, they are light years better than Thorne. But I digress. It was a difficult throw for Davis, but give credit to Leon for making Davis have to make that play. Leon busted it out of the box and made Davis rush the throw. This, boys and girls, is why you always run hard out of the batter's box.
  20. It's the same situation that we had in 2015. A pitching staff that was supposed to be mediocre and an offense that was supposed to be one of the best in baseball. I heard over and over and over about how stupid Ben was for implementing such a ridiculous plan.
  21. Have to give credit where credit is due. Dude is a beast. He's going to be a PITA for years to come. I already hate him.
  22. I agree with this post 100%.
  23. Very sensible post. I think it's still a little curious that Vazquez hasn't started a game, but there might not be anything to it at all.
  24. This FO has not let me down yet, even in the years where we finished last.
  25. First, our Pythagorean record says that we should have 92 wins, 5 more than what we have. IMO, that's the number you start with, not the 87 wins. Secondly, no one is suggesting that the Sox do nothing. All I'm suggesting is that our offense is good enough that we do not need to pay an arm and a leg for an aging Encarnacion. Thirdly, you can win just as many games scoring fewer runs if you allow fewer runs. Improving the pitching or defense can have the same effect as improving the offense.
