  1. I believe that Vazquez will be catching ERod tomorrow.
  2. I found this rather interesting: Brian MacPherson ‏@brianmacp 33m33 minutes ago Catcher framing runs, per @baseballpro: * Christian Vazquez, plus 5.4 in about 3,000 chances * Sandy Leon, minus 3.2 in about 3,500 chances Stat corner more or less agrees with these stats. Leon's pitch framing has been below average this season. I still see Vazquez as an elite defender. I think his less than elite performance defensively this year has a lot to do with his injury and subsequent year off.
  3. I am not ready to look ahead to 2017 yet. I am enjoying 2016 too much.
  4. Why not go with 12 pitchers and let one of the pitchers also serve as a pinch runner?
  5. Keep it going boys! Win, Win, Win! Go Sox!!!
  6. I, for one, sleep better at night because of him.
  7. This is what's stated on the MLB site: Determining Home-Field Advantage in Two-Team Tiebreakers 1. Head-to-head winning percentage during the regular season. 2. Higher winning percentage in intradivision games. 3. Higher winning percentage in intraleague games. 4. Higher winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games. 5. Higher winning percentage in the last half plus one intraleague game, provided that such additional game was not between the two tied clubs. Continue to go back one intraleague game at a time until the tie has been broken. I guess I should have said "intra" instead of "inter".
  8. You make a valid point, but I still struggle with the difference between the 'best' and the 'most valuable'. I don't think they're the same. Perhaps in terms of measurable value, ie WAR, they are. But I think a player can be the most valuable player to his team without being the best player on his team.
  9. If I recall correctly, Texas gets the tiebreaker, which after head to head record, goes on to interdivision record. HFA would be nice, but it really isn't all that important in baseball, especially if you have a team that plays well on the road, like the Sox.
  10. I would love to have a Red Sox - Cubs World Series. IMO, that would be the two best teams in baseball facing off. Obviously, I would be heartbroken if the Sox didn't win, but for me, having the Cubs win would be the next best thing.
  11. This is more or less a random thought, but thank goodness for YOTN putting the game threads in order before he locks them. Good job!
  12. I love this guy!
  13. Woohoo! Let's go!
  14. If you're going with the best player, it has to be Trout.
  15. Meanwhile, the supposed 'great' managers Gerardi and Buck were schooled by Farrell this past week.
  16. I got the impression that Farrell was hesitant to use Moncada as a pinch runner after his mental gaffe. I'm not sure Farrell will have the confidence to use him as a pinch runner in such a crucial spot.
  17. I have no problem with the Sox calling Moncada up if they truly thought he was ready.
  18. He's certainly deserving, but saying he has it locked up is a bit of a stretch.
  19. I'd have to agree that Kluber is ahead of the others by a tad. As you said, though, I really couldn't argue with the others.
  20. That probably had something to do with it, but still. They had to have seen the difference in readiness between Beni and Moncada in AA.
  21. New series. New victim. Same old SFF mojo. Let's go!!!
  22. Haha. True. Like me. I'm almost always optimistic in my predictions. Sooner or later, I'll be right.
  23. That's quite possible as well. I can't really disagree with anyone who thinks he'll be in the minors most or all of next season. It begs the question, though, of how the FO felt he was ready enough this year to give him a shot.
  24. My takeaways from this article: 1. Farrell is not on either list. In other words, his BP management is not as bad as some have made it out to be. 2. This passage: "Perhaps surprisingly, we found that bullpen management — good or bad — doesn’t actually affect a team’s overall performance all that much. Certainly it’s not as important as, say, having good relievers to employ in the first place." Plus this passage: "In other words, bullpen management isn’t the be-all and end-all of managerial skills. That fits with what we already knew about managers: How they shape the chemistry and morale of the team tends to be vastly more important than their on-field tactical machinations, no matter how high-profile those machinations might be." 3. They referenced DRA. {Love}
  25. Absolutely. When a team has something or someone to rally around like honoring Ortiz (or like the unfortunate marathon bombing in 2013) it creates a strong synergy. You also cannot underestimate the "big brother" effect of Papi on the younger players, or even on the vets like Hanley.
