  1. I did not expect him to pitch quite as well as he is pitching this year, but I did think at the time that we signed him that he would improve a little over his 2014 season in 2015 and beyond. I supported the early extension all the way, and even after a terrible season last year, I thought the extension was a good move and that I'd do it all over again if I had the chance. Even if Porcello craps out for the remaining 3 years of his extension, it was still a good move to make at the time.
  2. LOL You really need to come around more often Pal.
  3. Cherington is going to be in charge of developing the farm in Toronto, something that he excels at. He had a chance to be the "Big Cheese" in Minnesota, and declined the interview. You can continue to knock him all you want, but those who are in the business have a lot of respect for him, as they should.
  4. Have to win tonight. I don't care how we do it, just WIN! Go Sox!!!
  5. Yup. They need to seriously just go away.
  6. Not that I'm much of a football fan, but football season isn't even on the radar until baseball season is over, regardless of whether the Sox are in it or not.
  7. Nice! At the game mojo going strong!
  8. Yeah, that's kind of idiotic.
  9. No brainer!!!
  10. You're a fantasy beast Thunder. Come up with a 3 point plan and we'll send it to the FO for their consideration.
  11. Pretty please!
  12. The problem is that there really is no repeatable way to improve on that. You can't beat randomness. The outcome of a one run game often comes down to things like a line drive being hit right at a defender vs a bloop hit falling, or a ball bouncing over the wall for a ground rule double vs staying in the park for a triple.
  13. One of the writers brought up a good point though. Would it make you feel any better if the team won by 3 runs and then lost by one run?
  14. Best wishes for your dad and your family. Enjoy the game! At the game mojo is the best. Go Sox!!!
  15. The whole replay system is whack if you ask me. Why are some plays reviewable and others aren't? What makes one play more important than the next?
  16. Congrats Thunder and MVP! If MVP is that good, perhaps the Sox *should* follow his 3 point plan.
  17. Exactly. I posted in another thread that if you want to know who the good teams are, look at the records in blowout games, not the records in one run games.
  18. Hanley looks like a Gold Glover at first base in comparison to how he played left field last year. He is still below average, but he is about 25 runs better than he was last year in UZR and 15 runs better in DRS. Being one who thought he was going to really hurt the team with his defense this year, I'll take it. He has not been a liability.
  19. LOL Your avatar is cracking me up. And WOOHOO!!!
  20. If the Sox make the playoffs, Farrell's job would be mostly safe. However, if we suffer a tough loss in the playoffs, similar to the Grady Little loss, which leads to elimination, I could see Farrell being fired.
  21. I'm guessing the reason here is due to sample size. When you say that a coin flip corrects itself to 50% very quickly, I don't know what you consider 'very quickly'. I know that in 100 coin flips, very rarely do the results come out 50-50. In consecutive tests of 100 coin flips, it's not at all unusual to have +8 heads twice in a row. It's a team's lopsided record in one run (or two run) games that often skews their Pythagorean W-L. Even though a season is 162 games, how many one run games does each team play in a season? I get what you're saying about the correction factor. It might take longer to correct itself than we'd like. I just don't like people saying or hinting that we are not a good team or that we don't have a good manager because we can't win the close games.
  22. LOL I do understand that regardless of what Pythagoras says, our actual W-L record is what ultimately matters. You often hear the statement that it's better to be lucky than good.
  23. Certainly, I get the frustration with Clay's lack of durability. I prefer durability too. That said, a 'half year' pitcher can end up being a blessing in disguise. If the pitcher is healthy for the first half of the season, sometimes that's just enough time to give a youngster in AAA before he's ready to be called up. If the pitcher gets injured midseason, sometimes they come back in August or September, healthy and well rested, and provide a much needed boost to the team. Injured players coming back later in the season are sometimes the best 'trade deadline acquisitions'. These are not the kinds of things you plan for or hope for, but there is still some very good value from having a good player for half a season.
  24. Too much stock is put into our record in one run games. The outcome of one run games is mostly due to randomness and tells you very little about the skill/talent/ability of the team. If you want to know about a team's talent, look at its record in blow out games, not one or two run games.
