  1. Well, as Bell pointed out with regards to managers, there will always be another pitcher to take Buchholz' place.
  2. LOL Scout's honor, I did not read your post before posting the exact same thing.
  3. Good point. How many 'Francoma' critics would like to have him back now?
  4. I have agreed with you and others that it is fair to question Farrell and the coaching staff about the more than usual mental gaffes.
  5. Perhaps some of it is also giving Holt the playing time to assess exactly what he will be able to give us. I know he hasn't been that good, but seeing him in the lineup regularly at this point really doesn't bother me. Despite all the days off, some of our guys are banged up. They can use the rest. I'd rather have them rested and fresh at the end of the season.
  6. I see what you did there.
  7. And this is why I miss Buchholz. I miss his threads.
  8. Their OOB is not worse, but their UBR and BsR (overall baserunning) is much worse. They have cost themselves approximately 2 games due to poor baserunning. Despite all of our OOBs, we are about even in baserunning. This is why you can't look at OOBs in and of itself. And our damage comes from GIDP.
  9. I don't know an exact ratio, but I'll look into it. I don't know if it's as simple as just looking at a ratio, without taking base/out states and game situations into account. I do know that the last time I checked, the Sox were the 4th best in the majors in extra base taken %, and that their UBR (extra base taken runs) and wSB (stolen base runs) were both positive. It is by a small amount, but overall positive nonetheless.
  10. I think there is merit to trying to keep relievers (and all players) fresh for the end of the season. This team is not in a do or die state right now. I'd hate to overuse Reed or Kimbrel now and have them be less effective at the end of the year and in the playoffs.
  11. I am neither a huge Farrell fan nor a Farrell critic. IMO, he is not nearly as bad as some people here make him out to be. In the end, it comes down to the players being able to execute.
  12. Holt might be playing a lot out of necessity. Pedroia's injury is one factor. Trying to keep players fresh is another. Pretty much everyone is banged up at this point in the season. Holt looks like the goat of this game because it was his play that ended the game, but he is far from being the only reason we lost.
  13. Good post Max.
  14. I think it's a law that we have at least one "Trade for Stanton" thread every year.
  15. It might just be my imagination, but it seems like we fare better in games when we're trailing by 1 or 2 runs going into the 8th inning than we do in games that we're leading by 1 or 2 runs. I hate losing games late. That said, Cleveland is a very good team. We only lost by 1 run. Outside of the final outcome, good stuff.
  16. Right here. What can you say? He messed up.
  17. Farrell is still playing it a little conservatively with the pen. He probably could have used Reed, but what effect might that have at the end of September/October? It's not quite do or die time yet. Being a little conservative right now is probably the right call.
  18. His home/road splits this year are incredible. He just can't pitch on the road this season for some reason.
  19. The Book says to go to your closer.
  20. Replay has benefited us on some plays, hurt us on others. I would have been upset if the umpires did not overturn that call. That said, I am still against replay.
  21. It would have been nice (fitting) if he could have retired after a Dodgers World Series championship.
  22. He has made some bone headed plays, but then he'll turn around and make a fantastic play. It's a learning curve. He does have a DRS of +7 this year and a UZR/150 of exactly 0. Not great, but I think he's learning. Will he ever get to JBJ's or Betts' level? Probably not, but those two set a pretty high bar.
  23. LOL Perfect post.
  24. He has been good this year against us. I'm just saying that that can't happen!
  25. I fully endorse this post.
