  1. These are all good depth guys, and should remain as such. Wright could be very good for us again, but after such a long time off, we really can't know what to expect. My guess is that if Price is out for 2018, we will acquire another starter, but it won't be a #1 guy. IMO, it will be a mid rotation type.
  2. No, he should not. That is too much to pay for a reliever.
  3. I would be a riot at parties and bbqs, if I ever went to them.
  4. LOL It's all good. Gives us something to talk about.
  5. Another tough pitching match up. No JBJ in the line up, as he is back in Boston getting an MRI. That leaves us with a really short bench, unless roster moves are made. Pom Pom and the Red Sox for the WIN!!!
  6. Yes, it was. I thought they were both good moves in terms of providing depth, but both players have come up bigger than just 'depth', especially in light of the injuries to Price and Pedroia. Thanks Dave!
  7. Fister came up huge. HUGE! A one hit, complete game! Wow! On paper, the odds didn't favor us. On the mound, Fister is no nonsense. He gets the ball and pitches with conviction, like Sale does. Good stuff.
  8. Red Sox fans have had it very good since Henry and company took over. Fans of most other teams would kill to be in our shoes.
  9. I always prefer the NESN telecast because if we're losing, the opposing announcers become extremely annoying to me. That said, the Guardians crew was not bad last night. They were very complimentary about Fister.
  10. There is inherent bias in what we see. As humans, we cannot help or prevent that to some degree, no matter how objective we think we are. I am telling you, man cannot live by the eye test alone.
  11. RBIs are largely a product of the team. While they are not useless, there are so many better ways to assess a hitter. Mookie has more RBIs than Hanley, but Mookie also has had more runners on base than Hanley (306 to 299), and more plate appearances (563 to 443). Counting the batter himself as an RBI opportunity, that is 869 chances as opposed to 742 chances. That's not the best way to look at things either, but I think that shows why just looking at sheer RBI numbers is not very telling. FTR, Mookie has batted in 18.954% of other batters, while Hanley has batted in 10.033% of other batters. Mookie has obviously been better at getting other batters in.
  12. Their incredible record right now by no means guarantees them anything in the playoffs. They could be swept out in the first round.
  13. I would have no problem with the Dodgers winning it all if the Red Sox don't.
  14. LOL That could work. Or just replace them, period.
  15. ftfy
  16. Eye roll.
  17. Actually, our bullpen is pretty good. It is one of the top 3 in the league, behind maybe the Guardians and the Yankees. They have their implosions, as all pens do, but by and large, they've gotten the job done. They may or may not hold up for the rest of the season, but so far, they have been very good.
  18. No, I'm not sure I can agree with that. That would be like saying that stolen base % is less important than stolen bases. They led the league in runs that year despite their poor baserunning.
  19. Some good insight, as always. Pedey made some good progress yesterday, so hopefully we'll see him soon. I really think Bogaerts' hand is still bothering him and he could use a few days off. I read that Swihart is still playing some games at catcher, though not exclusively at that position, so he might be a nice versatile piece for us when rosters expand. That will allow Farrell a 3rd catching option in case of emergencies as well as a good pinch hitting option.
  20. I think you have a valid point about the message it might send, but in terms normal slumps and hot streaks, the best bet is still to play the best hitters.
  21. Every sample is worth something, and every sample is inputted into updated projections. Recent small samples of a hot or a cold streak are not a good indicator of what a player will do in the next game.
  22. I personally would have preferred Reed and Kimbrel in the game as well, and worried about who will close today's game if the situation arises. But I can certainly understand Farrell being conservative, and I think being a little conservative now probably is the right call. Valid arguments can be made both ways. I'm certainly not going to crucify Farrell for that decision.
  23. LOL That's the beauty of Red Sox fans. We all have a little bit of 'Fred' in us.
  24. They were up there. And they had a low XBT%.
