  1. Nah, I can't agree with this statement.
  2. IMO, our team is in very good shape for next year. I don't think much needs to be done, outside of adding a 1B. And we will have the financial flexibility to do so.
  3. I hate the thought of the defensive downgrade that we would get with that alignment.
  4. For this year, absolutely not. I think he's worth a look next year. He will be expensive as a 4th outfielder, but the Sox are paying his salary anyway. The hit on the luxury tax won't be as bad, after resetting this year.
  5. Reed had a nice inning last night in a less pressure situation, but what turned out to be a key outing. Also, Barnes looked good. I wonder why he has such a huge difference in his home vs road splits.
  6. Stanton is good, for sure. Very good. But methinks some of us have fallen a little too in love with his home runs. He is not worth what it will take to get him.
  7. Reading Jackie's comments this morning, he already had it in his mind that he was going to score from 1st on a wall ball. He supposedly sent a signal to Butter to send him if that situation arose.
  8. That run saved ended up being the a huge difference maker. In defense of Carpenter, he couldn't be sure whether Jackie was going to make the catch or not. He went back to tag up. IMO, saying that Carpenter was thrown out trying to score from 3rd on a single, while true, is a little misleading. It was more like he was thrown out on a 'sac fly' that wasn't that deep. Not to take anything away from Jackie. He played the ball perfectly and made a great throw.
  9. Last night's game was an example of how aggressive base running won us the game. Too much is made of the raw number of OOBs. We may be first in OOBs, but we are also 4th in % of extra bases taken.
  10. If I'm not mistaken, a catcher is allowed to block the plate once he has the ball (or attempting to catch it) like Molina did. A catcher cannot block the plate waiting for the ball to arrive.
  11. Mookie is so freaking good that when he struggles he's still currently 12 out of all position players with a 4.2 WAR. A lot of that is from defense, but still.
  12. The funny thing about all that is that I'm pretty sure I just read that Mookie prefers batting lead off.
  13. Exactly. Hold the umps accountable and demote them if they aren't getting the job done to a certain degree of accuracy, or if they don't get the message that they are not the stars of the show. They will continue to stink as long as they know that they can.
  14. For next year, I agree with you completely. For this year, it isn't happening. The Sox are not going to go over the tax limit at this point in the season, unless something drastic happened, like 2 of our 3 outfielders having season ending injuries.
  15. I would absolutely give Rusney a chance next year. The tax penalty will reset, so putting his salary on the books won't be as big a thing as it would be this year. He might be a little expensive as a 4th outfielder, but if he can hit like he's been hitting this year, it's worth it. At the very least, perhaps he can recoup some trade value.
  16. Sox for the 2 game sweep! Let's go!!!
  17. The whole point in staying under the tax this year is so that he has the flexibility to go over it next year. He will likely to that, but it will be within reason.
  18. I would not do simply because of the contract. Even if Miami were willing to give him to us as a straight salary dump, I would not do it. That's just me.
  19. IMO, that doesn't do the team a whole lot of good. They already control Devers for 5 more years after this one.
  20. I don't know oldtimer. Maybe it's not a lack of either, but just that some things are easier said than done.
  21. I hope it continues, but his slash line has never been anywhere close to what it is since he's been in Boston. As I said, I think your points are valid. I think we just disagree on the extent to which those factors are contributing to his success.
  22. These types of contracts usually end up crippling a team in the later years of it. The fact that no team put a claim on him shows that no team is willing to take on that contract, regardless of whether they have to give up prospects or not.
  23. Are you talking about a 6 or 7 year extension, meaning a 12-13 year deal? I'm sure you are, which would be extremely risky after 1 month of play.
