  1. I could never root for a team with 50 cent on it. His name has bugged me since the first time I heard it. It's 50 cents, plural. Not 50 cent. One cent. 50 cents. OK, end of OCD rant.
  2. Correct, correct, and correct. The one game wildcard game stats are included in postseason stats, not regular season stats like the 163rd game was.
  3. That's fair enough about the game threads, but those comments go beyond the initial reaction of the game thread. I am not debating the stupid outs. I am debating two points: 1. Not all outs on basepaths are due to stupidity. And yes, some people think they are. 2. Just because we lead the world in OOBs does not mean that our baserunning is necessarily bad. People have said that Farrell's teams have always run the bases poorly. That's simply not true.
  4. Ha. You are preaching to the choir. I have stated many times that HFA for the playoffs is not that important.
  5. Question away. All I ever said was that people tend to overvalue line ups, much like they overvalue saves. You are putting far too much into that simple statement. From BP: "In short, most of the hand-wringing and scrutiny of batting orders is for naught. Batting order simply does not make that much difference. Managers tinkering with lineups so rarely shun convention that most of their changes would affect their teams' output by only a few runs over the course of a season. Were it not that the conventional wisdom has become self-fulfilling prophecy—batting order is important because everybody thinks it's important—Martin could have pulled his lineups out of a hat all year long and hardly lost a game in the standings. That's all I'm saying.
  6. Well, that's just negative thinking. Maybe it means that we win at home AND on the road.
  7. Well, we all want that.
  8. There are some stupid base running plays being made. No one is denying that, nor that there is a difference between stupid (forgetting how many outs there are) and aggressive. However, there are a lot of plays that were not stupid but merely aggressive where the runner was out. And what is the reaction in the game thread? "Another stupid base running out!" My point is that not every out made on the bases is stupid.
  9. Yup! The F word was definitely in there!
  10. I realize that. He wasn't even supposed to be a full time player. I'm just saying he is not as bad defensively as some people are making him out to be.
  11. That could be also. Good point about expanded rosters.
  12. There might be something to the 'comfort' thing. Or it might just be a random, fluky thing.
  13. Oddly enough, Cleveland and Houston are both better on the road. Maybe we don't want home field 'advantage' over them.
  14. They count if we advance. Obviously, winning the division is far preferable. But get to the playoffs any way you can.
  15. We're in good shape for the 'window'. That's why we have a window.
  16. I'll retreat from the cliff when the cliff is no longer there.
  17. A lot of players wag their bats, so it makes sense what you're saying. I've heard that it helps with timing and also that it helps some batters stay back on off speed stuff. With Bogaerts and the wrist injury, I'm wondering if the timing of the bat wagging is off, or is somehow hindering him.
  18. His defense has been fine. Not a gold glove year, but certainly above average.
  19. BTW, did anyone catch Farrell's reaction with Butterfield after the walk off last night? He was pumped. Good stuff.
  20. Good post.
  21. Yup.
  22. People (not named Kimmi) would have been complaining about yet another stupid out on the bases, but it would have taken a near perfect relay and play at the plate to get him. Even if Molina had caught the ball, it's iffy as to whether he would have tagged JBJ. It's called aggressive base running. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. As I've posted many times, we have won more than we've lost.
  23. LOL You guys crack me up.
  24. That's a possibility. Whether we win it all or not, Dombrowski could make a big move that none of us can foresee right now. He might decide to trade one of the Killer Bs, knowing that we can't re-sign them all. I'm just saying that if Dombrowski does nothing other than acquiring a 1B and maybe some bench and BP tweaks, we are in good shape.
