  1. Unless, of course, he had been thrown out. Then it would have been stupid.
  2. Holt has not been as good as he was for us in previous years, but he's fine as a bench guy. His versatility is needed right now.
  3. Great pitching by the Porcello and the pen today. Workman is showing more and more that he can handle high pressure spots. It is great to see Reed bounce back in his last 2 outings. Very nice job by him.
  4. Last I checked, Vaz was better at framing pitches, though both are above average.
  5. I've said over and over that batting order doesn't make that much of a difference, and it doesn't, but even I have to cringe at Holt leading off.
  6. This had me literally LOL. I stand corrected.
  7. I think what irks me more than Sale not being his typical self is that our offense was shut down by CC. That just cannot happen.
  8. Of course I did. I read all of your brilliant discussions.
  9. My point being made about aggressive plays being called 'stupid' when they don't work out.
  10. In all seriousness, I cannot blame Dombrowski for Price's performance to date (not that it's been bad, just not up to expectation) or for Price's injury. I can blame him for giving Price that contract, but the contract should have been well worth it in the first years. I don't think anyone really anticipated the underperformance, the injury, or the 'mental issues' occurring in the first 4 years of the contract.
  11. I read something this morning that Devers doesn't really study video of opposing pitchers, nor does he sit on certain pitches. He just goes up there and swings. I just don't think he realizes how hard baseball is supposed to be. LOL Not that I'm advocating it one way or another, but I am sure Devers will be batting clean up (or 3rd) before too much longer.
  12. I don't disagree that keeping more teams in it longer was probably the main reason for the decision. On that note, there are currently 7 teams in the AL within 4 games of the 2nd wildcard spot. Some of the teams have a lot of spots to jump over, but a good 2 week run can make a big difference.
  13. Perhaps there is something to the idea of signing Usain Bolt, just for that purpose?
  14. I think it is human nature to remember the outs and not so much the successful attempts. The Astros have cost their team nearly 2 wins in bad baserunning. They are 3rd worst in baseball behind the Phillies and the Mariners. What has hurt the Red Sox more than anything in terms of baserunning is the GIDPs.
  15. There are cumulative base running stats to measure these things. One of the problems with saying that a particular out on the bases just cost us the game is that there is no way of knowing what might have happened if that out had not been made. We might have lost the game anyway. Therefore, you cannot look at an individual instance and statistically say that play just cost us the game.
  16. I also had no problem with Holt attempting a steal against Betances. It didn't work out this time, but it's a risk you take if you're going to be an 'aggressive baserunning team'.
  17. I get that. I know that there have been some obviously stupid base running plays. Being aggressive versus being 'way over aggressive' is a very subjective distinction. I'm just saying that, as fans, we tend to call plays stupid when they result in outs even when they weren't stupid.
  18. No probably about it. JUST FREAKING WIN!!!
  19. This type of thing happens all the time. Lackey at one point was the worst human being in the history of baseball. His character was assassinated when he was pitching poorly. A few years later, Ben was an idiot for trading him away. Go figure. I'm not excusing Price for his behavior towards Eck. But I'm guessing the whole thing became way more of a story than it ever should have been.
  20. Despite the homerun the other night, I sadly have no confidence in Bogaerts to get any big hit right now.
  21. I like to call them enigmas.
  22. IMO, the umpires do a pretty good job for the most part. What irks me about them is when they let their egos get the best of them.
  23. LOL This is too much.
  24. That is pretty much it in a nutshell. Leave the catching tandem alone.
  25. I don't know whether Price is a whiny spoiled brat or not, but I think it's funny how quickly the tide has turned on him. The great majority of posters wanted him here regardless of the cost. He was supposed to be the 'ace' that we needed so badly. He was by all accounts a great leader and a fierce competitor. I didn't like the contract and I didn't like the way he treated Eck. That aside, I still think that he's a competitor who wants more than anything to be on the field helping his team win a championship. If there is anyway that he can get back this year, he will.
