He's a pretty bad defensive catcher, but if you just keep him as the backup is it ok for 40 G? If he can hit 800, is the trade off fair?

I think that's a huge question to be answered.  Just taking a look at the OPSa for Tolle, Bennet & Suarez, it looks like Gaspar out-performed Wong.  And I don't hate Wong, but if Gasper can be a BUC, that lightens up a crowded DH situation considerably.  But that's just my accounting-level review.

Well if Wong isn’t good enough they obviously need one with BADley most likely to go down.

They will have several backup catchers. If they go into 2027 and decide it's Adley & Gasper, I'm ok with it. I'd just like to see some interesting guys at AAA too. Right now, it's Garcia, Riley Adams and Nate Baez. Probably need to sign somebody else as injury insurance.

According to FG, Wong has one option left.  He'd be about as good a #3 as you could get.

I don’t really see the Red Sox going into next season withThe Great Gasper as the backup plan at catcher, but it wouldn’t surprise me either. RUSTman staying healthy is the bigger concern.

I guess. Sometimes it's better to just turn the page. They probably keep him around though.

I'm not saying they'd do that. They'll probably just bring back Wong AGAIN. I'm sick of seeing him.

*Wong has a mediocre season in COL in '28*

"Everybody hated Wong and wanted him dead when he was here! He's the face of the franchise in COL!"

Thats a lot of passion for a backup catcher.

Somehow there's passion for DHam now? IDK. People were really upset when MIL was in town earlier this season and he put a bunt down. I don't remember anyone thinking twice about him when he was traded. He was fine as a fill in guy. I still don't see him as an everyday guy (0.2 fWAR '25, 0.4 fWAR '26).

Without adding Abreu, I'm not sure the Sox have enough to get Elly.

BTV Accepts Bennett/Abreu/Durbin for Elly.  Not sure they'd want Durbin perhaps you can swap him out for Justin Gonzales.  Of course Cinncy wants MLB talent for Elly, but with Abreu and Bennett filling that gap perhaps a prospect they really like could fill the value gap.

I personally, would love to see Story at 3B for 162 games.

Are they extending Story for '28?

No but I'll worry about 28 after 27

no, you don't say? didn't sense me sarcasm there?

Anyways, if you're not trading Arias for Elly, then in 28 you still have Arias/Elly/Mead there and two whole offseasons to figure out contingency or alternative plans.  And who knows, maybe Jake Schnaffer flys through the system and is knocking on the door by the end of next year.

Adding Gonzales or Godbout would be enough, but I would not do all that.

Then I move on to Abrams.

I think Arias, Duran (w $) Primera & Valera comes close. They can have Holobetz and Monasterio, too. If they want Casas...

Not sure what this means.

I'd get Abrams to play SS.

Why is an HR chart vs BAL included?

It's an expected BOS HR chart vs actual. Feel free to ignore the BAL numbers. He is a pull hitter that loses lots of value if moved to Fenway and only has 2 years of control.

Last 3 seasons:

-8 DRS, -46 OAA

He needs to be moved off SS. Absolutely terrible at SS.

Yes, it's only two years, but it's arb costs.

-3 DRS in 2026 was not horrific. (-6 in '25 was worse. +5 in '23+'24 was not bad.) -4 in 5 years is better than Story, recently. (Not saying much.) -4 DRS is 2026 in like 550 innings and -7 last year.

Abrams OAA w WSH (not BAL) is really bad.

I'm huge on SS defense, but we need an elite bat and SS is our worst offensive slot.

I think the DRS shows that he's not an absolute butcher with the glove, but the lack of range with OAA means he just needs to move over to 2b. Arguably, not worth the trade proposed IMO.

I wasn't proposing the same offer as DLC for Abrams, but for 2 years, it's kinda scary and narrows the window.

This was the slam on the AR trade.

1.3 seasons for all that...

I'll admit I over simplify things, but our SS position is the pitts on offense, and it might take years (or never) for Arias to hit well.

I also see Arias as our best trade chip. I think many teams want Arias. I'm not sure CIN or WSH does.

I would not go 1-1 for Lopez, but maybe we get Lopez and another good piece.

Story at 3B with that rifle arm? Most of his throws from SS are coming in on the run.

2B might be pushing it.

He's not good enough to be a DH.

Thats was my attempt at humor, and the joke was he plays 162 games
