Right , its intent is 50% gross, teams will skirt it and find a way to apply deductions and it will be 50% of a funny money number which guarantees zilch.

If they do 50% gross and allow auditors in maybe.

There is no such thing as 'funny money' when it comes to revenue.  If your lawyers and accountants miss a revenue stream, that's on them.  The Braves have public financial records.  I could probably identify every material revenue stream in a couple of hours.  Someone smarter and more energetic can probably find the 'change in the couch' line someplace.

ed-I didn't see your last line.  An audit would be automatic.  TBH, I think the percentage of the gross is a false flag operation by the owners.  I think their revenue increases out-pace the players salary gains.

Because the owners won't really give up 50%.

Sure they will.  Not 50% of the entire amount. But they are perfectly willing to give way 50% of almost 10% of the money.  In fact, they don’t tell you this, but they’re willing to give way as high as 60% of bottom 9% of all the money involved…

But you didn’t hear that from me…

And the "revenue" used would just be classified as "baseball revenue" which is a very obtuse definition which isn't an accounting term TBH.

Some teams directly own the TV stations that air their games. Some do indirectly. Same with concessions companies, merchandising, security and other aspects of the game. Some are "on the books-" some are not. It varies from team to team.

It's not really hiding the revenue, but it may be difficult to sort it out so every team is measured by the same stick.

And they would find a way to net out something against the number used for the calculation as well, I suspect.  It wouldnt be "baseball revenue" it would be "adjusted baseball revenue" to make an already vague concept even more vague.

Work your butt off for me now and in return you will get vague future promises (subject to change), seen that movie before.

It seems like some of the new ballparks are kind of headlined into being complex anchors.  Build a mall, a hotel, entertainment, around the ballpark.  And like Moon said, wholly-owned TV subsidiaries complicate things.  Not that I would do such a thing, but if I owned the team and the TV, and had to share team revenue, someone less scrupulous than I, would make sure the TV station sent me less revenue than expected.

Anything can happen, but I wouldn't worry about that.  I could probably identify 98% of their revenue, and the unions are going to hire guys way, way better than me.  And for the really murky things, they will probably have an arbitration board.
