Time for a  brooming to send the Giants back to sleep mode.

Guerrero, Gamboa. and Bello all available to back Bennett.  Give us 5 innings  Jake and get a win.

One fine day Sox hitters will show some interest in scoring in innings 1-4.  Save us from the 8th/9th heroics

Bennett ad 9 days of rest, so let's see if that helps.

Having Bello ready is a big plus. He will likely pitch today, but if not needed maybe we could go with an opener-Bello game later and give everyone, including Bennet an extra day off. We do have that doubleheader looming next Saturday, but unlike NYY, we have THUR off. (The Yanks have tomorrow off, but that but that is less helpful going into Saturday, as 4 starters have all gone.

Facing a lefty, today gives Duran a day off:

1. R Jones DH

2. R Rafaela CF

3. L Abreu RF (doin fine v LHPs)

4. R Contreras 1B

5. R Durbin 3B

6. S Sogard 2B

7. R Monasterio SS

8. R White LF

9. R Wong C (No Rutschman)

Only one LHB, and Abreu is .912 v LHPs, this year!

Sandoval throwing 93 pitches a big plus for Sox yesterday.

It will be concerning if Bennett doesn't finish fifth inning though.

Unless we go to Bello. We could use Bello for 4-5 and still have him ready for the NYY doubleheader this coming Saturday. We cannot afford another "pen game."

Nice planning.  The timing would be perfect.

Sandy caught some serious beef after those two dingers, but somehow he kept us in the game.

Like it or not, he's been a decent #5.

His 4.09 FIP indicates his 4.54 ERA is a bit inflated. His main issues are:

4.1 BB/9

1.1 HR/9

All-in-all 4.50ish is a plus from a 5th starter. 40 IP in 8 GS is likely better than most 5th starters, too.

IP/GS

5.8 Gray

5.8 Bennett

5.7 Tolle

(Early 5.4)

5.1 Suarez

5.0 Sandoval & Crochet

Sandy's been fine.  He's pitched well enough for us to win 6 of his 8 starts, and we have won 6-8.  My biggest complaint is that he's been a little short on the innings with just bout 5 IP/GS.

MON at MIA Suarez

TUE at MIA Tolle

WED at MIA Gray

THU OFF

FRI at NYY Sandoval (+1 day rest)

SAT at NYY Bennett (+1 day rest)/ at NYY Opener>Bello

SUN at NYY Suarez (+1 day rest)

MON SEA Tolle (+1)

TUE SEA Gray (+1)

WED SEA Sandoval

THU at BAL (back to no extra rest until the day off on Sept 10th)

The rotation vs the Yanks is not ideal, as there will be no Gray or Tolle, but if we wanted we could not give Tolle the extra days and pitch him Monday and then Sunday, or just pitch him Sunday over Suarez.

5 IP per GS is very good for a #5.

The issue is more tied to Suarez never going past 5, and Bennett and Tolle maybe needing more rest.

Yeah, I'm taking back the kudos on the planning now.

Had we gave Gray and Tolle more time off so they'd line up with the Yanks, we'd have needed more pen games or starts by Burgos.

Bennett has looked like he’s struggling to find a feel for his pitches. Maybe a long layoff wasn’t good. Maybe being almost 50ip past last year is starting to affect him. 4 seam is hanging around 93-94 not 95+

It'll be interesting to see who the #2 starter will be in the PO's. Right now no one looks promising.

Gray Suarez
