For the first time in my life, I’ll be attending two games in a single series. I need to see in person how Tolle will comeback from that kick-ass outing the other night.

If anyone here is interested what it was like to witness the 11-1 series opener, I have a full vlog on YouTube. @BaileyFox_boi

"A potential MLB work stoppage could influence whether they promote the 20-year-old shortstop this season — even if they determine he’s ready to help them win games in September and during the postseason."

I am so sick of this. I thought we were trying to win right now? This is the same media complaining about Breslow not doing enough.

Or stop carrying water for ownership about the lockout stuff. Just say that Arias should be up and Henry should against a lockout because he's making money hand over fist anyway.

I'm with you.  I prefer sportswriters to "media" but believe that the Boston ones believe they will not be read if they suggest anything even remotely positive.

The kid's a good fit at SS.  Story, Monasterio, et al can battle it out for 2b.  Sox brought up Bogaerts in 2013 when he was still 20 (he turned 21 on Oct 1) and did not regret it.  Betts is almost exactly the same age (6 days younger) but didn't make it until 2014.  In 6 seasons with the Sox Mookie's aggregate WAR was 41.8.  In 7 seasons with the Dodgers it's been 33.8.     In his most recent 3 seasons, including this one, his OPS's have been .863, .732, and .688.

Reminder!!!!!  Game starts at 4:10

Pfaadt has started 3 games this month, averaged 7 IP per game, and given up 0 ER.  In July he pitched 28.2 innings with an ERA of 1.88.  Thanks to those two months this has been a breakout season for Pfaadt.

I think I’d have been shocked if they called up Arias with Story coming off the IL this week.  Story is having a rough year but that could have been due to his hernia and he’s probably more likely to add immediate impact, at least at the plate, regardless of pending lockout…

How much does a work stoppage really set Arias back? Just suggest he workout with the other 40 man guys?

That may be too logical for Sox execs in their poison ivy towers.

But you're right -- if he's good enough to make the majors in a pennant race in September, then Arias is good enough to hone his craft with big league teammates next year whenever they're not playing actual games (winter conditioning camps, Spring Training drills, MLB off-days, lockouts, pandemics, etc).

How is it bad for a young batter to continually face deliveries from pitchers like Chapman, Tolle and Bello?

I'm certainly no expert.  I was a huge Story booster last year, his first really good--meaning healthy--year of 4 with the Sox.  But this year he's back on the IL, which is par for his 5 seasons with the Sox.  Last year he hit well, OPS .741, but had the 3d most SS errors (19) in MLB.  This year Monasterio's OPS is .755 and he has 5 errors in 74 games.

You could well be right that Story returns to SS, but my preference would be Monasterio or the kid, who sure looks like a good hitter and fielder, at SS and Story at 2b.

He must have had a hernia last May too.

Once Story and Anthony return, my pre-expansion ROS lineup (until altered by injuries) would be:

C: Rutschman

1b: Contreras

2b: Monasterio

3b: Durbin

SS: Story

LF: Duran/Jones

CF: Rafaela

RF: Abreu

DH: Anthony

BN: Wong, White, Sogard

Will Breslow follow my lead?  Wouldn’t be the first time…

vs LHP 111 wRC+

vs RHP 96 wRC+

Seigler vs RHP 117 wRC+

I think it's more important they have a good LHB on the bench than two platoon RHB like Jones & White.

In this scenario, Gasper and Siegler are gone, probably realistic

OK, keep Siegler and White, drop Jones

It would not be too shocking if Mead and IKF are kept in IL mode for the rest of the year .

If IKF and Mayer ( SF GIANTS problem now)   had similar stress reactions in forearm, the healing may be well advanced and rehab is turning into playing. .

Do you bring IKF back and thereby drop Siegler ?

Gasper and Seigler have options.  Jones and White di not.

Demoting Gasper and Seigler allows them to keep everyone.  Sogard has options, too…

Yes, and we are less than 2 weeks from SEP first +1 everyday roster boost.

Gray, opener and 3 days of rain. Tolle may be entering the 'I've never been here before' part of the season.

I just hope the BP can survive the next 35 games.

I'd suggest the Sox hit more fly balls at Corbin Carroll but it's 3-2 -- so they may have already hit the over-under for this game and he may be safe now from any gamblers threatening his kneecaps.
