Burgos is better than Weisert. Not even close.

Different roles.  Weissert has often been brought in with multiple men on; situations where it is difficult to get out of cleanly for most pitchers.  He’s a 1 inning guy.

Burgos is a starter (at least in the minors) and can go 3-4 innings if need be in long relief.  His  stuff doesn’t play to the role Weissert was too often asked to fill and Weissert’s stuff doesn’t play to the role Burgos is filling.

Burgos likely goes down to Worcester after this one; Sox want to give an extra day rest to all their starters so Gamboa or someone else will be brought up to start tomorrow.

Helluva run and its okay to lose one. No one dies.

Bound to happen but did reveal/remind  some weaknesses.

After today's game I have two things clear. White can't hit at all and should be DFAed and Slaten is not a high leverage reliever pitcher anymore.

And Masa doesn't get enough respect on the bench. How could Tracy not use him at all today?

Slaten is overrated.

He’s not the closer material many saw in him, but these were the first runs he’s allowed since July 5, covering 11 appearances.  In those 11 games, he allowed a total of 3 hits.

Chapman’s been far shakier over the last month than Slaten.

I’ll repeat my response to SplendidSplinter.  Those were the first runs he’s allowed in 11 games since July 5th, a span in which he allowed a total of 3 hits and most of which were 7th inning type appearances.

No pitcher has it every time out.  Heck, even Mariano Rivera managed to blow back to back saves in Games 4 and 5 of the 2004 ALCS.  I guess the Yankees should have just given up on him.

4 of the Sox last 6 losses since 6/25 came at the hands of the Nationals(1-2) and the A's(4-2).

The other 2 were the O's(2-1) and the Jays(2-1).

The Sox are 23-0 against everyone else they played from 6/25.

Bennett just didn’t have it today. Too many walks. Lack of command. Maybe the heat had something to do with it. But win tomorrow and we win another series.

The chopper hit between him and Wong seemed to piss him off. I'm not saying that distracted him, but maybe...

The kids has not has many bad games.

First of all, White had 2 good at bats at the end....he drew a big walk and then roped a liner to CF on that last AB... I'm sure a lot of guys didn't care for Durbin, had no faith in Monasterio playing SS, felt why is Sogard back, Seigler there, questioned Yoshida being back for another season....etc...Jahmai Jones who is probably last guy anyone wanted  hit the crap out of the ball today, 3 hits and Sogard 3...White is the fastest guy on the team (think Dave Roberts pinch running in playoffs)...few were hitting A's hurler who was great. Point being making judgment calls on Sox players hasn't worked for fans this season. Enjoy the wins...this was still a tying run at plate rally...that's a good thing.

weaknesses? 27 out of 30...it did nothing this game...they lost, it's called baseball. Game exposed nothing.

He's hitting .296 against lefties.   Anyone else on the team doing that?

-0- HRs and 3 walks in 27 ABs.  JJ has 4 HRs in 90 ABs with a 32/12 K/W.  He's not a donut against lefties, but I'd start JJ against lefties and not think twice.  Yoshida career OPS v lefties is .662 and JJ's OPS v lefties is .783.

Duran looks very bad vs Jump.

He has reached and maybe exceeded his Peter Principle

He had 3 HRs in his previous 5 games.  But it is likely, at this point, that he is not an option against lefty starters.

Need to be careful with those one-game sample size.

Darn good.  He hit a ton of corners plus the combo of his fastball and slider was brutal.  Bennett was not nearly as sharp.  And of course Slaten and Burgos both stink today.

Everybody looked great last night and almost no one does today.  Given the 12 innings and 4 hours night before last, that's forgivable.

Meanwhile the Yankees take 2 straight from the Braves and go up 1.5 games on the Sox.

Jump was a top-40 prospect.  Nothing surprising here.

Duran and White 0-7 with 5 Ks.    But keep Yoshi on the bench, because ... well ... you know ...

Yoshida was on the bench because of JJ, who went 3-5 with 2 runs scored.

It's to give guys rest, but yeah would have liked Yoshida in there to pinch hit for Duran even with a lefty

White was there because Abreu was injured.  Nothing you can do.  But Duran has never hit lefties.  He's at .588 this yeah and .600 last year.  White is not much of a solution, but has about a .745 over the past two years.  When Abreu returns, a LF platoon of Duran/White, and a DH platoon of Yoshida/JJ, with regular PH appearances, is probably warranted.

The only weakness I saw was that Jump out pitched Bennett.

Bennett lost it after the 3rd inning.  I don't overrate one game, but he is 35 innings past last year.  Or it could be nothing but the humidity.  You can't even walk without sweating.

Slaten is overrated.

From 6/13-8/2, Slaten had the 4th best fWAR in baseball. 3rd best FIP.
