My guess is that Witt has excess value of ~ $160M.  Neto has an excess vale of maybe $100M.  I'd rather add Neto and save half my farm.

Witt has a surpluss value of $230 million, while Neto has surplus value of 60.1 million

Witt's seems a little high, but he would still take a king ransom almost entirely not worth it.  Neto may be more realistic and he offers multiple years of control.

BTV ACcepts Mayer/Eyanson/Harold Rivas for one Zach Neto.  Angels are getting $6 million surplus value from that trade, not sure if that's enough but it would certainly be close.  I'd make that deal.

Only thing I don't like about Neto is his defense.  I suppose you could move him to 2nd/3rd and move up Arias to SS.  Maybe not this year but certainly going forward in 2027 they can do that.  He has the arm for 3rd, but the way Durbin has looked lately makes me think we have our 3rd baseman of the future now.

I'm not giving up Eyanson for a guy who needs to be moved off SS and whose plate approach resembles Trevor Story.

Neto seems much more worthy of pursuit than Witt. I'm not coming close to those offers suggested for Witt.

lol those offers are mostly not even close to what it would take.  neto isnt a generational player.

Having seen some of the comments from the Angels fans in MLB-R, many are not fond of his fielding.

4 years my bad, that’s still a lot.  And if he’s opting out it’s because he was well worth it

He could benefit moving to 2b like Story did in '22. That's a lesser trade though!

I feel like nobody sees the big picture everyone keeps saying he’s untouchable. KC is not a big market team they are already talking about selling off wacha and Lugo and clearing that money, why would KC want to pay Witt $23 mil next year for a lockout and then 3 years later not even be able to sign him long term for what he’s worth.. his hometown discount deal is still worth $50-$60 mil a year and that will give the royals no money to spend around him . So now you got him for 3 years chancing injury and fall of play when you have a huge market for RHH right this second that would pay a ransom. Right now they could capitalize potentially save $70 mil from taking their 3 top paid guys off the payroll. Get a freaking haul for Witt that are younger and longer control than Witt.

it’s a perfect situation

im sending Roman-Early-Arias-Eyanson-J Gonzales-Witherspoon and Meyer for Witt/Lugo and eat Lugo’s money with it and not batting an eye. Red Sox showed they’d sign Soto so why not go get a better fit in Witt and pay him $800 million till he retires.

It would start with Anthony and Early plus others to get Witt. Investing that much on one player never made sense to me. Look at the Mets and Soto. As great of a hitter he is, he is going to be a full-time DH before he is 30.

KC is trying to build a new stadium. Dumping your franchise player while doing so is really bad for business.

Witt isn’t Soto. Soto is a bad corner outfield with future DH written all over him. The nationals made the padres look like fools for that trade. Witt is hands down top 3 player in baseball. Soto is top 10 but I don’t know if he cracks top 5 with Ohtani, Judge, Witt, Skubal, Yordan in my top 5.  He sits in the Harper, Tatis, Guerrero, Henderson, Acuna level and probably worse defense than all of them and probably #1 in offense.

Witt is young at a position that tends to stay in great shape long into their career. He has a better chance of playing later into his career like A Rod or Jeter at a higher level than turning into a Soto who’s going to continue getting fatter and slower and may turn into a Big Papi doubles home run and walk machine but has to be in a DH role for 7-10 years.

if you replace Witt with Soto in that Nationals trade I don’t know if that’s a crazy bad deal if you end up signing him thru his entire career. Abrams great bat he should now be a 2nd basemen, saw hassell for a minute no clue what’s up with him, wood looks fantastic but he’s Stanton and judge size so how long does that last, gore looked great his arm will blow off sooner or later and probably for multiple seasons.

I saw you say that before but they gonna have money for a new stadium and resigning Witt to a $500-$600 million contract at the exact same time while putting 24 other players around him with Noah Cameron, Caglianone, and Carter Jensen looking they could be worth a pretty dime a couple years later. If they start a stadium today it’s not done for 2-3 years and you got Witt looking for a new contract in 4-6 years and that stadium isn’t starting today so it’s gonna be around the same time.

Four years of Witt for almost our entire minor league system?

And a sizable chunk of our yearly budget.

It's not happening. We coulda signed Soto, if we wanted to pay that kind of money and not had to trade the whole farm. We won't do either, so this is a double no.

Yes because the Red Sox will pay whatever he demands and it’ll be 14 years not 4 at a position we haven’t had figured since bogey left honestly and before that Nomar.

Soto didn’t make sense. I’m glad we didn’t sign Soto he should have stayed with the Yankees. He reminds me of A Rod and I don’t like him.

If we're going to sign him as a FA for 10 years, at age 31, why do we need to trade the farm for him?

Name 5 players better than Bobby Witt on both sides of the ball right now. Name 10 players better than him in the last 10 years. Bobby Witt is elite. Even as Red Sox fans we can respect Jeter. Bobby Witt is Jeter with a helluva lot better bat. He is an A++ defender and an A++ bat with A++ character, look what Jeter did for the Yankees over the course of 20 years. Teams no Witt can do that for them. And it didn’t take the farm to get the Yankees all them WS it was trading the farm and paying for talent around him.

Witt is someone if you can afford to build a team around he will win you 3-5 World Series from now until he’s 40. He’s a waste in Kansas City, in 4 years they won’t be able to afford batters 3-9 in the lineup and 2-5 in the rotation. They can afford a Witt +1 (caglianone/jensen) and a good pitcher like “Cameron/healthy Ragans” but they will always be praying for old veterans or rookies to perform to be at the top. They may pay Witt but he will only bring them fans for a few years until the fans realize they can’t afford to build a team and they are smart enough to realize that now and he will be dealt within the next 2 years and you will have to pay your farm for a guy like that. If Soto cost Wood, gore, Abrams then Witt will cost more and then some.

the Red Sox should and would trade the farm for him. They would trade Anthony, Abreu, Eyanson, Witherspoon, Arias, and Justin Gonzalez for him and then trade for another OF to replace Abreu but you have to trust that Bresbot and his team of nerds will continue to wheel and deal to keep that farm churning. Witt is someone you go all in on. If the Red Sox felt that way about Soto they would but that staff is smart enough to realize Witt and Soto are different levels. Witt is someone you give ohtani numbers too.

I’ll say this the Red Sox will be forced to do something drastic in the next 2-3 years and they will pull a Witt, Skenes, or someone on their level in 2-3 years from the prospects but it’s coming, they saw what elite like papi did and that’s what the fans demand and that’s what Boston needs to figure their stuff out. Maybe they go a step lower for a Tatis/Elly De La Cruz level and a solid #2 but there will be a bigger name than Wilson or a Crochet SP project in Boston in 2-3 years. They are doing well building this scrappy core but a big name needs to tie it all together and I feel a Witt does that and I don’t think it takes them till Witt free agency to figure it out after watching Guerrero slip through the cracks and Soto pick the Mets after leaving the yanks and ohtani going to the dodgers with the angels going into reset mode and the Toronto going into free fall after losing him.

i mean the reports are saying they already tried with trout multiple times and trouts at that level minus the injuries, The Sox want their next papi but they want the right choice. Witt is my pick

Agree, but my point was that Soto just cost money. Witt cost money and half the farm.

If you have to trade half your team for Witt, it's super hard to "build a team around him."

But you aren’t trading half your team your trading half your prospects. They’ve done a real good job signing these younger guys to longer cheaper contracts to put around him and I think that’s something they can continue to do. But you have a core and a willingness to spend. Plus Witt doesn’t cost all that much now they have 4 years until opt outs kick in and that’s enough time to develop the newer prospects that we can hopefully get 1 or 2 to be meaningful contributors and maybe sign on that 7-10 yr $70-$100 million contract to put him around him to spend big for 1 or 2 more guys. but you don’t have to worry about half the teams contracts in the next 4 years a lot of these guys have 5+ years of control.

Witt isn’t an option because KC isn’t trading him.  And every reason you come up with about why they should is a superficial rationalization that, upon better securing, makes absolutely zero sense.

Can you name one player to sign one of those mega extensions snd then get traded 2 years later?  The Royals signed Witt because he was their best chance at winning, and a bad season doesn’t mean tear it down, trade Bobby for a dozen prospects, and hope one pans out and becomes extension-worthy…
