They wouldn't let Valera get an MRI and he's out for 2 weeks.

Weird no MRI for a prized prospect.

Sonny Gray remains on track to start May 6th.

Slaten is due for bullpen session April 28th.

Crawford & Sandoval have been pulled from rehabbing with no timelines.

Casas, Oviedo, Romy & Houck remain on the 60.

Why rush him? Its already best that this team lose as many games as possible to improve our draft position. I would hold off starting Gray until September at the earliest.

That May return date is looking less and less likely.

He doesn't fit well enough or hit well enough to make the team.  We'll see you in September, or whatever the song says.

The only Sandoval seen in a Red Sox jersey was Biggut, who broke his belt buckle before going back to San Francisco, where he flourished once again when he resumed his diet of sea otters.

Why call him Biggut?  According to the FO, he was 17% body fat.  That's my target.

Because tanking involves losing as many games as possible, meaning our SPers should be held out and a less useful pitcher be used. It has nothing to do with his injury, only with tanking.

Generally speaking the higher the draft pick the more talented is the player. Doesn't ALWAYS work out that way, but in general its true. Its why the teams with worse records pick higher than the best teams.

Okay. Usually the term "rushing" a player back implies that maybe it was before he was ready.

I'm not sure 3.5 GB a WC slot is time to tank, anyway.

I am. This team absolutely sucks. We all know it. As I predicted over the winter it has no chance whatsoever to play October baseball. Best to start now in a quest to improve our draft position.

The whole league sucks, though.

This could be the year suck makes it to the big dance.

...and Sandoval sucked in his second rehab start.

It seems this rinse & repeat continues, year-after-year.

Another blown money. We throw away money but we sure are cheap on good talent.

With this group , why does it matter.  He is 36 and should not have been signed.  Throw him out there.  Someone was has to pitch.

And a 3.54 ERA.

Anyone know the Rule 5 implication?  Does the injury get us another year?

I don't think there are exceptions. If selected at age 18 or younger, it's 5 years/ 19 and older is 4 years then Rule 5.

Valera is eligible DEC 2027, so maybe he pitches some in 2027, and we know more.
