One where hes gotten hurt every year for the last 10, and makes 18m/yr and is 37 yrs old

Id put him in the pen.

I’m not on board with Sale coming back, but he is one year removed from a Cy Young award and is coming off a 4 bWAR season…

I could see this being the case, so that would take Romy out of the DH platoon mix.

The next question would be: would Brez & Co. okay the use of a prospect like Garcia or Campbell in a near strict, short-sided platoon situation in the OF w Abreu and/or Duran or at DH with Masa? I'm saying probably not, so then yes, bring Ref back for 1 year.

I hope not.

I don’t even like platooning Mayer.  But a top 100 RHH prospect in a platoon?  You’re better off getting some Ref/Romy LHP-hitting specialist and dealing the prospect for a need.

Garcia is too good to waste on the bench or in Worcester right now.  Deal him for a pitcher or an infielder….

I think they'd both be better served playing FT in AAA, until needed FT in MLB, or until they deserve to unseat a FT'er on the MLB roster.

I am for trading Duran plus either JH or Campbell...maybe in seperate deals.

Both years wasnt available when team needed him most. And he makes 18m.  How much excess value can one really have over 18m when hes finished every single one of the last 6 years hurt.

Add Hicks.

I love these posts.

Just add Hicks.

"No problem Boston, we'd be happy to take on your expensive mistake. Please be sure to give us a call if you have any other issues we need fixing. Hey... what about that Masa chap? That would really free some room up for you guys."

Good one. Always trying to get rid of Masa, and Hicks like all the other teams are beating down the door to get em, and take them off the Red Sox hands' and payroll.🤫

You think the Sox should trade John Henry?!?  Why have anyone tried that before?!

It can largely only be done if you take back a (larger?) ugly deal from someone else (which is how we got Hicks) or throw in most/all of the remaining money.  At that point, why?

So we can sign someone preferable to a deal that turns ugly on 3 years and watch the cycle begin anew?

If that’s your offer, your plans on where to pitch him doesn’t matter…

Maybe a guy just needs a change of mirrors. Or a storefront window at night. Or a pond on a clear day.

Maybe.

When was the last time we got that guy?

I think it’s easier to assume both Masa, and Hicks will be with the Red Sox, and go from there.

That post was half in jest.

When trading for a player with a high price tag, money is often part of the return. It's not an absurd concept, and maybe Brez isn't the only GM who sees some hope in a Hicks turn-around.

No. I am one of the few remaining fans who is not a dump JH supporter. (I'm almost there, and this winter might get me to that point.)

I've not been happy with JH, but 4 rings carry a lot of weight, to me.

I agree. If somehow we can work out a way to dump or swap dumps, okay, but we need to plan on them being on the roster in '26.

The best shot at dumping one is NOT as a throw-in to balance money in a trade package, unless the other team has roster room for Hicks or Masa, but rather as a stand-alone deal where we trade Masa + $13-14M a year for nothing special or Hicks + $6-8M a year for nothing special. Even this is unlikely.

Again, any suggested trade ever made is going to be "unlikely."

Andre Dawson: 67.2 WAR in Montreal and Chicago, -1.3 WAR in Boston. What the--- ?

He was like 38-39 and was negative with his next team, too.

Breslow seemed happy to acquire Hicks.  I’m on Team Yoshida.    I  expect  both in Boston…

Bailey has until opening day 2026 to teach hicks to throw non straight line pitches! This is a very difficult task indeed

It really is quite amazing how "straight" his heaters are.

It makes one wonder why an MLB team gave Hicks that eight figure contract to begin with.

He had a decent first 2 seasons in MLB and then one right before he signed with SF, but yes, that seemed like a significant overpay.

Yeah he really needed that change of scenery to shine…

He got lucky the year before and faced a lot of crooked swingers.

Seems like in his quest fit higher velocity, he has sacrificed movement on his pitches

Since the last ring, he's acted like a complete different owner. Can anyone confirm a head injury?
