Accoriding to Tommy Cassell, LHP Kyle Harrison will make his Red Sox debut on Wednesday following Early tonight. The move will push Tolle back to Friday against New York. Harrison was acquired from SF in the Rafael Devers trade. He had a 4.56 ERA in 8 MLB starts with the Giants, and had a 3.75 ERA in 12 starts with AAA Worcester.

When they call up Uberstine, I'll agree!

Looks like Cora will give Harrison, Tolle, and Early a chance to make and solidify the back end of the postseason rotation.

I thought guys had to be on the major league roster before Sept 1 to be eligible for the postseason...?

Early was not on the 40 on Sept 1st.

hmm. Thank you I did not know that. So this is a pure September call-up to provide depth for a stretch run? Feels like they could've found that elsewhere and kept Early in AAA to develop.

No, just on the 40 man prior to Sept 1st.

No, just in the org.

Postseason Roster Rules & Eligibility
Definition
For the 2025 season, any player who was on the 40-man roster or 60-day injured list as of noon ET on Sept. 1 is eligible for the postseason.

Those on the restricted list at that point are also eligible if they haven't been suspended for performance-enhancing drugs during that season. (All players who have served a suspension for PEDs in a given season are ineligible for postseason play that year.)

A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation. (For example, a player on the 10-day injured list who has been on it for at least 10 days, or a player who has been on the 60-day injured list for at least 60 days.) Players who are acquired in September or after are ineligible.

Sox will have more than enough injured pitchers that can be "replaced" by Early or any other AAA guy they want. The 40 man roster designation is a formality.

Would Early qualify for the petition given he is replacing Dustin May? Do we have any past experiences to reference?

Ah, thank you. Most of my roster rules knowledge comes form OOTP Baseball and I don't think the petitioning part is in that game

It happens all the time and is nothing to worry about. If May/Hicks/Fitts are out the rest of the year, Early could be on the roster if they wanted him to be. It just depends on if they think he'll be a valuable starter or if he could fit in a relief role (questionable).

Sounds good. I'm really against the whole throw a top prospect starter into a relief role (think Bubba Chandler in Pittsburgh). Call me old fashion but I do think starters have a routine and that does matter

Six man rotation down the stretch helps to not overload Crochet or the young arms like Tolle and Early.

The youngsters are used to starting once a week in a six man rotation.  Asking them to do something they have never done in their pro careers strikes me as a bad idea.

There's a reason for this.  All minor league schedules now follow the same formula, 6 game series played Tuesday through Sunday either home or away against one opponent (Monday is a travel day). I'm guessing either all or almost all starting pitchers in the minors across all franchises follow that rotation.

I get why the minors went that route, it cuts down on travel costs, particularly at the AAA and to a lesser extent, the AA levels.  The IL and PCL are very spread out.

Man, if someone had told you that 3 lefty starters would make their Boston debuts in September 2025, you would have assumed we were in 2012-style garbage time.

The real joke is some of the vets we tried throwing out there. Sheesh.

"I think Buehler is a good signing because he really turned it around the last 10 innings of the playoffs!"

"Once Bailey can work with Dustin May!"

At least we don't have to rely on the Brad Peacocks of the world to get through the season.

The last time the Sox promoted three rookies in one week was the game when they gave away t-shirts showing Campbell-Anthony-Mayer all holding up #1 fingers (added it up, it meant we're #3).

first is the worst, second is the best, third is the one with the treasure chest

Bailey can work with Matz.

Wilson was a good signing because of his last 9 IP if 2024 (1.14 FIP.)

Where does Harrison fit in, or does he not?
