Well that was one hellaciously successful road trip.

Yup! 9 days ago, our road record was 27-34. Now, we are almost at .500 (34-35!)

Our home record is very impressive at 41-26.

Did you miss me? Believe it or not I actually have a life outside of TalkSox(!). I caught some of the game but was busy dealing with contractors fixing my deck. Fear not!
I’ll be back!

Nice road trip btw.

Is such a thing possible?

More like "fixing the deck". Hey everybody , FredLynn is a poker cheat! FIxes the deck to deal himself aces!!

Bernardino is so much better than Hicks and Buehler, and even better than Wilson, who has struggled for several weeks.

It's the time of the season where keeping as many options on the table begins to be outweighed by the need to have your best 26 on the roster for every game.

OPS Against

,365 Chapman

.465 Slaten

.525 Matz

.545 Bernardino

.553 Whitlock

.653 Weissert

.705 Wilson

.771 Hicks

.823 Buehler

Last 28 Days

.032 Chapman (OMG! last 31 PAs: 0-31 w 1 BB!)

.182 Bernardino (yes, this is OPS Against)

.525 Matz

.555 Weissert

.559 Whitlock

.781 Buehler

.816 Wilson

.861 Hicks

Yes, over the last few weeks it does seem like he went from bernadollars to bernadonuts

I might need a second coffee.

I want full scouting report? Anything with lateral movement that he can front door and back door.  I think this is what led to Bello turnaround. When you can front door and back door a cutter its awesome.  Especially when it is paired with a sinker. Sounds like a recipe for weak contact.

I backdoor the sweeper like a champ in the show. Nobody can hit it.  Thing starts our so far outside and runs in.  You gotta wait so long and everybody gives up the pitch.  Maybe you can stay back long enough, but even then , you arent crushing it.  If you dont give up its most likely a late-swing foul.  Im not sure if its a realistic pitch in actual baseball but I woud imagine its dangerous cuz sweepers break a ton and if you back door it and it breaks too much its over the plate in the low 80s

If Hicks had options, he'd be with WOO.

How long can a team fighting for the playoffs keep a guy they hope might get his act together for next year take up a slot on the 26 and end up pitching in a tied game?

If he was optioned already this year (outside of conditioning), he has an option.  You can have 0 options remaining and still be optionable. Because when you use your last option - your options remaining go to 0 but that last one you used is good for the whole year.  So if he was sent down after spring, his options remaining would go to 0 but he can be yo-yo-d all year, but Im worried that you knew this and Im overexplaining which I get accused of doing by the lady quite frequently

It's his first MLB start, so I'm not expecting dominance. He's still learning his secondaries.

It's not uncommon that the naysayers disappear during good times.

Haven't been hearing as much "Cora is an idiot" or "Fire Breslow"...

I still want to promote Cora leapfrog Bres. If cora wants to keep bres on, Im good with it

I got leapfrogged once. One day, I was this dudes boss. Next day, he was mine.  It worked out.  He needed me. He just had the maturity and leadership skills and I was young too ego-driven for director.  I hated it then but understand it now (because I was too ego driven in my 20s)

He doesn't have any options left. He pitched in AAA on rehab which is completely different.

Yeah but I think the fact that hitters have never seen him before can be helpful.  But Im not going to deem him a bust if he struggles lol.

No matter what, one start wouldn't make him a bust. He's still a bit of a work in progress as a lot of his pitches are new to him. That he's in MLB right now is CRAZY. Whatever he does over the next month will be surpassed by how he pitches next season once he has had more time to work on his secondaries. While it's "just the Pirates" it's still a big jump. Any mistake pitch will get hammered.

I thought he could not be demoted. I'm more puzzled than ever on why he hasn't been, so far.

Thanks for not overexplaining this.

This game, on paper, really had no business being the nail biter that it was.  Thank goodness the Red Sox came out on top.

Let's go!

This game, on screen... ballparks are now paperless!

I know, because when my kid wanted concessions, I had to concede my debit card -- so he could use it, abuse it, and lose it (for a minute).
