what was Tibbs ranked? #10? if so, Brez got royally screwed.

To me, that deal was a salary dump. The return was not the object.

Plus, I feel Harrison was the best hope. Tibbs was maybe tied with Hicks as the second best hope.

Joes Bello may be the winner.

Yup. Same team that is barely hanging on to a playoff wild card spot while every other team involved improved. Think the FLOPS are a playoff team this year?

I think we should give May at least 3 innings to prove himself.

Fred was right? You've just increased his trade value.

Fred was 100% right. Sell, sell, SELL!

Why bother.

But hey-the old mantra for the FLOPS is still around: "just wait till next year........or the year after that",

Thanks. I know it wasn't a popular opinion before the deadline but I wasn't willing to give up anything significant for a futile run this year. The future really is bright I believe. We have promising youngsters and a genuine ace along with good complementary players. There is also money available this offseason if Henry opens up his wallet. There are also promising players in the minor league who are ours now. Glad we didn't trade them away. Now all that is left is for us to TANK which I believe will come naturally now that the players know that management has no faith in them. We will likely finish ahead of the Orioles and MAYBE the Rays, but there will be no joy in Mudville this October.

Again.

I still think we "coulda-shoulda," but this is sickening.

I know I was right, though it wasn't a popular opinion. I take no pleasure in being right though. This ******** is getting old.

Basically they did nothing of significance at all to improve this year or in future years. Breslow should be fired and take Cora with him.

We still have a shot for the last WC berth, but no way can we say we have top 4-5 AL team on paper.

Had we gotten Ryan and maybe Bednar or O'Hearn, we could have argued we were top 3.

Wait till winter, once again.

I ask again, "How Soon Is Now?"

I think a number of posters predicted this outcome.  Lots of arm waving but no real movements.

I said Bres likes this roster and Henry likes the current  budget.

They are what they are

I take no pleasure. I'm gonna call BS on that

I jokingly said 5-6 years a while ago, but I think we can compete for a ring in maybe 2 or 3 years. There is a good young core and decent complimentary players...and an ace...etc. I just wish we didn't play it midway again and were sellers to improve our odds for when we CAN compete.

The Sox should enact an official team rule that they will never again make any consequential deadline moves,  announce it in a letter to the fans.  Then at least we wouldn't go through all this waiting and hoping crap every year.  They'd be doing us a favor.

we have a winner.....that's such a BS. They think we're stupid.

I believe you, Fred.

Thanks. I do not think that there were any reasonable moves that could have been made to turn this team into a WS contender, and that is the goal. There are simply too many holes. But this playing it midway between being a seller and a buyer gets you NOWHERE. They should have been sellers for players of value in exchange for good prospects or to fill future needs. Breslow needs to be GONE and he can take Cora with him.

Beyond a solid SP and a platoon 1B bat, what are all these holes?

Two trades would have put us in the top 3 ballpark.

Absolutely horrible f***ing deadline. Either buy or sell. Getting one middle reliever and a s***** rental starter is absolutely stupid, horrible job by Breslow

Get ready for the excuses.

James Paxton, Danny Jansen, Luis Garcia and Lucas Simms had better outlooks on AUG 1, 2004 than these two guys.

A lot of those guys were really young in 2004.

Numerous other teams made consequential trades, which on paper at least, should improve them. That indicates the Red Sox could have made those trades if the management had they had the will to do so. Clearly they did not, whether it be due to tight budget restrictions, ineffective management or any of many other reasons one could cite. Another year without the attempt to be a factor or even reach the playoff. It's a shame, since this team has the potential to make some noise. Now I expect that noise to be a whimper.

I find it interesting they really need a 1b, but instead of acquiring one, they dealt away their top two in the minors…
