This is a really important start for Fitts ahead of the trade deadline. He may be pitching for his rotation spot in the final two months of the season.

Fitts has options.  A new acquisition is unlikely to.  With no more waiver deadline in August, July 31st is the last chance to add any pitching depth from outside (barring deals for players who have not played in MLB this year).

If the Sox acquire starting pitching, Fitts will be the one demoted regardless of performance, simply because no one else can be…

Our biggest mistake was not going after Kyle Schwarber. 46, 47, 38 and 32 homers for mere 4 Year $79M.

Ultimately, you need a power bat in the lineup.

How could we trade JD?

Might have been possible if they ate half or so.

Money was tight in those days though. 😉

That was his last year.....we could've managed.

You don't give up a chance to sign a premium player.

Hell, we're paying Yoshida $18M for 5 years and he's a part time DH.

Lets' see how much we're willing to pay, cash and players for next Crochet. Maybe our ownership group has gained much knowledge.

I would love to sign him as our next DH. We just got rid of $30M DH that had contract through 2033. That's 8 more years. Why not give Schwarber another 4 year deal?

Exactly, and "eating" half of JD's salary would essentially add the other half to Schwarber's cost.

I'd love to have kept Schwarber, and we can argue all day & night about JH coulda, shoulda spent more, but the fact was he would not and did not.

Achieving that 4-5 record against those 3 better teams may be a bridge too far at this point, but stranger things have happened. Unfortunately, those stranger things that happen usually work against the Sox.

Hill is tied for the record for most teams played with (14.) That's nearly half.

I think he's been on 17 different stints, including 3 with BOS (all for just 1 season.)

Btw, the Sox catchers have committed 7 CI's so far this season; 4 of them by Narvaez. Hard for the manager to complain about something the team's done all season. And yes, that does lead MLB.

The video replay was pretty clear, to me. It was C I.

Sad way to lose a game, where Buehler finally looked good.

I'm fine with confirming catcher interference.  But I also think the Sox were dead dead dead after the Phillies had the bases loaded in the 10th with no one out, largely because of a BB and a WP by reliever Hicks.

Buehler had a heckuva game--1 ER in 7 IP.

When one team leads baseball in so many negative stats, who should be held accountable?

I don't see them as you do.

I see a pretty good defense thanks to Bregman/Mayer at 3b, Story at SS, Abreu/Anthony in RF, Rafaela in CF, Narvaez catching, and even Duran in LF.  If Mayer could hit better, he is already a good defensive second baseman.

The Sox now have 3 pretty good starters, including a stud, Crochet.  Plus Buehler, maybe.  A good closer backed by an up and down bullpen as we saw last night.  Sox team eRA is ranked

The Sox are ranked 5th in MLB in runs scored and team OPS and 10th in team ERA.

They just won 10 in a row and are in the middle of playing all three NL division leaders, including two series away from Fenway.   They have done that despite losing Bregman for 1/2 this season so far and Devers since June 16th.  They have started four rookies--Campbell, Narvaez, Mayer, and Anthony.

Last night they almost beat the best righty starter in MLB and would have done so, 2-1, if Narvaez, a highly rated defensive catcher, had not had a passed ball.

Time to find out how resilient this team may be in the final 62 .

The Sox need to make a comeback game vs a  very good pitcher.  Have they got any gas in the tank tonight ?

Certainly not in the first inning. The LH'er Sanchez sits them  down on  about 12 pitches.

Bregman regrettably either can't run well due to his quad or maybe he shouldn't be playing full time.

Facing LH'ers messes the youth up
