Why not wait for a month when he has an OPS that's better than 700?

I never assume a player will repeat his previous month, the next month, and I don't get why so many seem to think that.

Does this mean we should have called him up after April? (.882)

BTW, he's at .709 in May.

Mayer> Sogard/Toro/Romy/Wong or whoever we are batting at 1B.

A two-month sample may be only one-third of a season to baseball fans, but to top prospects that's like one-sixth of an entire calendar year! (I was going to post more about RBIs, but when I tried I couldn't repeat myself).

Might they be getting bored in the minors? Could they possibly see better pitches to hit in the majors?

And worst of all: are they becoming embittered young men, disillusioned that their love of the game has been betrayed by the control-minded business department...

They offered him 400 mil knowing he would never sign for that. Complete scam.

according to multiple sources, the Red Sox offered Juan Soto a 15 year $700 million dollar deal.  I believe they were serious.

Roman Anthony is 3 years out of high school.  Marcelo Mayer is 4 years out of high school.  Both are one step away from MLB, and both are aware they are extremely likely to live their dream this year.

I would be anything the fans are much, much embittered than the kids are…

Typo on my part -- I meant emjittered and emskittered (while listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd).

Mayer and Anthony can't wait to become big leaguers -- and wealthy ones at that... But their agents can, and are probably targeting six years from now when their clients could become kajillionaires on the free agent market.

Six years may seem like nothing to old posters discussing young athletes not yet in their prime. But consider that six years ago Roman wasn't even old enough to get his driver's license.

Marcelo was, but his age required he stop driving by 11 PM each night, lest he face penalties of community service, fines and suspension of license.

Waiting for the call in Worcester right now may like Walker Buehler sitting in a classroom, watching the clock tick backwards.

IMO, both have been ML ready before this year even started, except maybe Mayer needing to get in sinc, after missing the end of 2024.

This does not mean they are entitled to call-ups, but I do think both are ready, bumps and grinds expected and all.

When will the time be better?

Do we have to wait for a major injury at the position they play or one that would demand very little shuffling?

I get that Story is being paid a lot, Rafaela is an amazing defender who may be finding a groove, and Campbell has already been called up and shown flashed of what could be, but there is no reason we should keep playing Sogard/Toro and others at 1B, once Campbell is deemed capable enough to play there.

Mayer is almost surely than Sogard/Toro/Wong and Romy (vs RHPs.)

Calling up Anthony is more problematic, and we don't want to move Rafaela to middle infield to make way for him. The Abreu-Refsnyder platoon is about as good as you can get for one OF slot. While Duran has sucked against LHPs, Anthony bats lH'd, too, and we won't and should NOT call him up to be even a strong side platoon, let alone the short-side one.

Duran is heating up, and get the worry about his defense in CF. The OF call is difficult to make, but unless we make a trade, what is going to change in the next 2-3 years? How long does he wait? How long do we wait?
