Both are controlled thru there age 31 season.  No need to extend those guys.  Take the team years

I thought Abreu to age 30, but close enough. (Does he have 4 arb years?)

Nope you’re right, off by a year.  Still, they got those prime years.

im not against it, I just see more value in extending guys and buying out years in their 20’s

We will likely see Navarro and Abreu start game 2.

Yanks lost, today, so the current standings:

6-3 NYY

5-4 BOS

5-5 TOR

4-4 TBR (tied in 9th w TEX)

4-6 BAL

I can see not extending Abreu. Age 30 is nice enough. We have so many everyday players controlled for a long time, plus up and coming prospects, that focusing more on pitching makes sense.

Extending Anthony, Mayer and maybe Houck & Whitlock by a year or two might be a better idea.

No matter which corner outfielder fans prefer, it just makes the most sense that one of Duran or Abreu gets traded soon.

Both are starting position players and too good to ride the pine -- which also means each has maximum trade value... compared to Rafaela and Refsynder, a pair with useful talents, but who are more the classic back-up types.

Rafaela rides the bench.

To me, an Abreu-Refsnyder platoon is about as good as you can get. Both have massive splits and can PH in games they do not start. I hope Ref comes back for one more year, despite the longjam that maye come with Anthony's promotion. Of course, there is no room for all these guys plus Yoshida.

I do think Rafaela could be a great uber utilityman (CF/2B/SS.)

LF Anthony

CF Duran

RF Abreu-Refsnyder

In all of MLB no team has more quality replacement everyday players than the Sox.

It's rather stunning, and Mayer and Anthony aren't even on the 40. Yoshida is on the IL. Grissom, Eaton, Thompson, Sogard and others are in AAA.

Don't lose sight of Abreu's arm and Gold Glove .  Now if he can pick up LH pitching better, he will be the All-Star.

Meanwhile, he's having a nice day at Fenway

Somewhere in all that talent, there must be an opportunity to trade for a #1 catcher.   Wong is not  improving over his baseline, not hitting .  Narvaez has been surprisingly good  in his turns , but this team could go far with a good catcher who can hit.

Unless the Sox can get Skubal or Byrnes the Sox shouldn't even consider trading Abreu,

I believe the Sox need a front line starter more than a catcher,

Btw, I hate this new format.

If it ain't broke. let's break it.

Dobbins getting the gift of a lifetime:  His first MLB win . All he has to do is plow through a few more innings, say the 7th and make outs happen
