Just when you thought the Red Sox were done, they've signed yet another franchise cornerstone to an extension. According to MassLive's Christopher Smith, the team has signed Kristian Campbell to an eight-year contract extension just two days after locking down Garrett Crochet to a long-term deal. We don't know the terms yet, but we'll have a full article up soon and keep updating it as news rolls in.

So when does this deal begin? Passant says it ends in '34. Need more clarity on options etc.

Good question. If it begins, now, then the two option years would be '33 & '34.

Rafaela got $50M/8 with no extensions. They are/were about the same ages.

Rafaela is still much more of an overpay.

Fixed it for you. But Ceddanne is great in Florida!

Just you wait until the Sox visit the Yankee Bay Rays and the Mahlins.

It sure looks that way, so far, but it makes the KC extension look better, when compared.

MLBTR...

Campbell gets a $2MM signing bonus and a $1MM salary this year. He will then make $2MM, $3MM, $4MM, $6MM, $9MM, $13MM and $16MM in the next seven seasons. There’s a $4MM buyout on the first option. There are also escalators based on awards voting and All-Star selections. The Sox are buying out two of Campbell’s free agent seasons with the options allowing them to extend their window by two more years after that.

Mazz is in. Says Excellent, Excellent, Excellent, and KC will probably hate his agent in 3 years.🤫 Good point. Who’s his agent? It must not be Boras.

It's 8 years, starting 2025. So he'll be here at least through season 2032. Then the Sox has two options years at $19M and $21M.

I think the options will be a no brainer. Those numbers look pretty small based on his potential.

Great get by the Sox.

It's too early to give up on a Gold Glove centerfielder.

It's hard to imagine KC not being worth $19 or $21 that far ahead, but if he's not, it's a nice "insurance" to have. He'll be 30 and 31 those option years.

Zero complaints about the Campbell extension.

Even if he's a GG centerfielder, his bat isn't worth the contract he'll be paid.

Sooooo, we not have a team control as follows

CC Wong (4) Narvaez (6)

1B Casas (4)

2B Campbell (10)

SS Story (3+1) Mayer (6+)

3B Bregman (1+1+1)

LF Duran (4)

CF Rafaela (7)

RF Abreu (5)

OF Anthony (6+)

DH Devers (9)

Not shabby

Who comes up after Mayer and Anthony? Looking at the Soxprospects list, I don't see a positional player scheduled to come up anytime soon. I see several pitchers on the list though.

Funny because Mazz was saying Campbell wasn't ready for MLB after Game 1. His opinion is dog doo.

Mazz is a tough critic, so if he’s in it must be a good thing. He did make a good point about KC’s agent though.

On the one hand 8/60m is a bargain if he works out as a starter level player at 2B. ON the other hand he has proven pretty much nothing. How many of his free agency years did we buy out with this deal? He struggled in spring training but has played well to start the season from what I can see.

According to soxprospects.com, here are the ETAs on their next highest ranked prospects:

2025 (late) Dobbins (8th)

2026: Perales (4th), Sandlin (11th), JH Garcia (12th). Romero (13th) & Early (14th)

2027: Bleis (6th) & Tolle (10th)

2028: Arias (5th), Cespedes (7th), Jo Garcia (15th)

As of now, none of these prospects listed look to make the money KC just signed for.

Maybe 2-3 pre-arb years and 3-4 arb years, so I'm thinking one or two FA years plus the 2 options available, so  2-4, maybe?

Not to nitpick, I said position players. But this is a good list Moon.

Regarding locking up Mayer and Anthony, here's what AI said:

"A player signing a contract extension before their MLB debut renders them ineligible for the Prospect Promotion Incentive (PPI), meaning their team won't receive an extra draft pick for their performance..."

... so Brez may wait on the Dynamic Twouo in WOOuo.

(and I just quoted a robot, who used plural pronouns for a singular entity, which would get it fired by the government, if only that used actual people to erase things)
